A RESOLUTION OF THE MIAMI CITY COMMISSION DECLARING NO
OBJECTION AND SUPPORTING THE CO -DESIGNATION BY THE FLORIDA
LEGISLATURE, PURSUANT TO SENATE BILL 1480, DESIGNATING THAT
PORTION OF SOUTHWEST 57 AVENUE BETWEEN U.S. 41/SOUTHWEST 8
STREET AND WEST FLAGLER STREET, MIAMI, FLORIDA, AS "MANOLO
REYES BOULEVARD"; FURTHER DIRECTING THE CITY CLERK TO
TRANSMIT A COPY OF THIS RESOLUTION TO THE FLORIDA DEPARTMENT
OF TRANSPORTATION, DISTRICT SIX, FOR SIGN INSTALLATION WITHIN
THE NEWLY DESIGNATED ROADWAY.
WHEREAS, the Florida Legislature, that is in session, is considering passing Senate Bill
1480 (2025), approving, inter alia, several road designations, including a co -designation for
Commissioner Manolo Reyes ("Commissioner Reyes"); and
WHEREAS, Commissioner Reyes, a native of Victoria de Las Tunas, Cuba migrated to
United States in 1959 as a child with his parents; and
WHEREAS, Commissioner Reyes was a proud Gator Alumni, having received both a
bachelor's and master's degrees in economics at the University of Florida; and
WHEREAS, Commissioner Reyes was first elected to the City of Miami Commission in
2017 with an overwhelming 57% of the vote, was reelected without opposition in 2019, and
again in 2023 with more than 86% of the vote, reflecting the profound trust and respect he
earned from the community he served; and
WHEREAS, Commissioner Reyes served as Chair of the Miami Downtown Development
Authority, where he championed policies that strengthened economic vitality, accessibility, and
cultural significance of Downtown Miami; and
WHEREAS, Commissioner Reyes applied his economics expertise in service to
municipal government, public education, and the classroom as a respected educator at Miami
Dade College and Westland Hialeah High School; and
WHEREAS, Commissioner Reyes' public service journey was shaped by perseverance
and purpose, to become a principled and influential leader in local government, known for his
fiscal discipline, advocacy for transparency, and deep connection to the community that will
inspire future generations of public servants and civic leaders; and
WHEREAS, throughout his tenure, Commissioner Reyes advanced numerous quality -of -
life initiatives, including expanding the trolley service, investments in affordable housing,
modernization of parks and infrastructure, support for senior programs, and the development of
Miami's first solar -powered tree canopy; and

WHEREAS, Commissioner Reyes received numerous honors and recognitions during
his time in office, including the Key to the City during the 2019 Three Kings Parade, and was
widely applauded for his efforts in promoting autism awareness through the District 4 First
Annual Autism Awareness event, and supporting underserved residents through programs such
as food distributions, school supply drives, and elderly assistance initiatives; and
WHEREAS, Commissioner Reyes' legacy will continue to inspire future generations of
public servants and civic leaders, reflecting a life devoted to public integrity, responsive
governance, and a genuine love for the City of Miami; and
WHEREAS, the City would like to honor Commissioner Reyes by supporting the co -
designation by the Florida Legislature of that portion of Southwest 57th Avenue between U.S.
41/Southwest 8th Street and West Flagler Street, Miami, Florida as "Manolo Reyes Boulevard;"
WHEREAS, that portion of Southwest 57th Avenue between U.S. 41/Southwest 8th Street
and West Flagler Street, is a state road located within the City limits; and
WHEREAS, Section 334.071, Florida Statutes, provides that the erection of markers for
a state road designation shall be contingent upon the appropriate city or county commission
passing a resolution in support of the particular honorary designation; and
WHEREAS, in accordance with Section 2-33(f) of the City Code, the City Commission,
by a majority vote, hereby deems this Resolution to be of an emergency nature;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF
MIAMI, FLORIDA:
Section 1. The recitals and findings contained in the Preamble to this Resolution are
adopted by reference and incorporated as if fully set forth in this section.
Section 2. The Miami City Commission declares no objection and supports the co -
designation by the Florida Legislature, pursuant to Senate Bill 1480 (2025) designating that
portion of Southwest 57th Avenue between U.S. 41/Southwest 8th Street and West Flagler
Street, Miami, Florida as "Manolo Reyes Boulevard."
Section 3. The City Clerk is directed to transmit a copy of this Resolution to the Florida
Department of Transportation, District Six, for sign installation within the newly co -designated
roadways.
Section 4. This Resolution shall become effective immediately upon its adoption.
