Subject: Accept Sponsorships - City of Miami Pathways to Public Procurement Summit
Purpose of Item:
The nature of this item is to respectfully authorize a resolution from the Miami City
Commission, authorizing the City Manager to accept sponsorships from various
corporations and/or organizations for the City of Miami Pathways to Public Procurement
Summit ("the Summit"), which is scheduled to take place February 20,-21, 2025. The
Summit was developed to help boost local small business growth, expand opportunities
for the City's local, small and minority business community and increase the City's
economic footprint. The event is free of charge to the attendees; however, due to the
event's related costs, it was determined that sponsorships were necessary, in order to
host a successful event and memorable experience for the attendees, and industry and
government partners participating. Further authorizing the City Manager to accept
sponsorships from various corporations and/or organizations for all future Summits.
Background of Item:
The City of Miami's Procurement Department hosted its first City of Miami Pathways to
Public Procurement Summit on October 19-20, 2023. The event was a big success as
was attended by five hundred (500) people that represented one hundred and fifty (150)
firms. There were over thirty (30) local, State and Federal agencies who participated via
EXPO tabletop displays and individual matchmaking sessions. The Summit featured an
AMAZON Business Lounge where executives from Amazon were present to discuss
opportunities with the Amazon Small Business Program, Black Business Accelerator
and Hispanic Business Accelerator Programs.
The Summit was developed to provide valuable exposure among local, small and
minority businesses, government agencies and large corporations, to create a one on
one experience for these businesses that focuses on: a) how to do business with the
City and other government agencies; b) resources available to local, small and minority
businesses; c) contracting opportunities; d) matchmaking (one on one matchmaking)
portion where these business owners will have the opportunity to attend meetings with
government agencies, and large prime contractors to help build relationships towards
success; and e) an Expo portion offered to key resource partners.
