Subject: Support FDOT Project - Enhance Traffic Safety For Pedestrians and Vehicles
Purpose of Item:
A Resolution of the Miami City Commission, with attachment(s), declaring no objection
and supporting the Florida Department of Transportation ("FDOT") project to enhance
traffic safety for pedestrians and vehicles on SR 934/NW 79 Street from NW 27 Avenue
to NW 1 Place within the limits of the City of Miami ("City") including the removal of
thirteen (13) on -street parking spaces, located on SR 934/NW 79 Street between NW 6
Avenue and NW 4 Avenue, as depicted in Exhibit "A," attached and incorporated;
directing the City Clerk to transmit a copy of this resolution to the District Secretary of
the FDOT, District Six; providing for an effective date.
Background of Item:
FDOT is developing design plans Financial Management ("FM") Project 410646-7-52-01
to enhance traffic safety for pedestrians and vehicles on SR 934/ NW 79 Street from
NW 27 Avenue to NW 1 Place within the limits of the City of Miami. The Project consist
of upgrading various signs in addition to adding special emphasis crosswalk markings at
the intersection of SR 934/NW 79 Street with SR 9/NW 27 Avenue, converting the
Eastbound and Westbound left -turn signal phases from protected/permissive to
protected -only at the intersection of SR 934/NW 79 Street with NW 22 Avenue,
upgrading various signs and adding special emphasis crosswalk markings and
reduction of the existing traffic separator's width to offset the left -turn lanes along with
adding a three -sectional signal on signal mast -arm on the Southeast corner and
Northwest corner at the intersection of SR 934/NW 79 Street with NW 17 Avenue,
adding signalized midblock crosswalks along SR 934/NW 79 Street east of NW 15
Avenue, SR 934/NW 79 Street west of NW 13 Court, SR 934/NW 79 Street west of NW
10 Court, SR 934/NW 79 Street at SR 9/NW 9 avenue, installation of a full traffic signal
at the intersection of SR 934/NW 79 street with NW 4 Avenue, installation of both raised
medians and traffic separators along the segment, upgrading of curb ramps, signs and
repaving and restriping the road in various locations. In order to implement the Project,
FDOT requires the removal of 13 on- street parking spaces as depicted in Exhibit "A,"
attached and incorporated. The Miami City Commission has no objection and supports
the proposed Project.

A RESOLUTION OF THE MIAMI CITY COMMISSION, WITH ATTACHMENT(S),
DECLARING NO OBJECTION AND SUPPORTING THE FLORIDA DEPARTMENT OF
TRANSPORTATION ("FDOT") PROJECT TO ENHANCE TRAFFIC SAFETY FOR
PEDESTRIANS AND VEHICLES ON STATE ROAD ("SR") 934 / NORTHWEST 79
STREET FROM NORTHWEST 27 AVENUE TO NORTHWEST 1 PLACE WITHIN THE
LIMITS OF THE CITY OF MIAMI ("CITY") INCLUDING THE REMOVAL OF THIRTEEN
(13) ON -STREET PARKING SPACES, LOCATED ON SR 934 / NORTHWEST 79
STREET BETWEEN NORTHWEST 6 AVENUE AND NORTHWEST 4 AVENUE, AS
DEPICTED IN EXHIBIT "A," ATTACHED AND INCORPORATED; DIRECTING THE
CITY CLERK TO TRANSMIT A COPY OF THIS RESOLUTION TO THE DISTRICT
SECRETARY OF THE FDOT, DISTRICT SIX; PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE
DATE.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF
MIAMI, FLORIDA:
Section 1. The recitals and findings contained in the Preamble of this Resolution are
adopted by reference and incorporated as if fully set forth in this Section.
Section 2. The Miami City Commission declares no objection and supports the FDOT
Project including the removal of thirteen (13) on -street parking spaces as depicted in Exhibit "A,"
attached and incorporated.
Section 3. The City Clerk is directed to transmit a copy of this Resolution to the District
Secretary of the Florida Department of Transportation, District Six.
Section 4. This Resolution shall become effective immediately upon its adoption.
