HomeMy WebLinkAboutR-24-0132City of Miami Resolution R-24-0132 Legislation City Hall 3500 Pan American Drive Miami, FL 33133 www.miamigov.com File Number: 15682 Final Action Date: 4/11/2024 A RESOLUTION OF THE MIAMI CITY COMMISSION URGING THE CITY MANAGER TO CREATE A PROGRAM TO MONITOR AND TRACK THE STATUS AND BUILDING INTEGRITY OF STRUCTURES DESIGNATED HISTORIC IN THE CITY OF MIAMI. SPONSOR(S): Commissioner Christine King WHEREAS, the City of Miami ("City") was founded in 1896 and as its history grows, the number of possibly historic structures grows, as well; and WHEREAS, Section 23-27 of the Code of the City of Miami, Florida, as amended ("City Code") only requires an annual report regarding the historic preservation tax exemption program; and WHEREAS, the City is facing monumental development which may put historic structures at risk of deterioration or demolition; and WHEREAS, there are historic structures in each City Commissioner's district vital to the history of the City; and WHEREAS, the City Commission believes that it is in the best interest of the public for the City Manager to inventory and monitor the status of structures designated historic by City district and circulate the current status of those structures on a quarterly basis to the City Commission; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA: Section 1. The recitals and findings contained in the Preamble to this Resolution are adopted by reference and incorporated as if fully set forth in this Section. Section 2. The City Commission urges the City Manager to create a program that catalogs structures designated historic in the City by City Commission District and to monitor the status of those structures in a quarterly basis report to be provided to the City Commission. Section 3. This Resolution shall become effective immediately upon its adoption.
