CITY OF MIAMI. FLORIDA
INTER -OFFICE MEMORANDUM

City Manager ENCLOSURES
Based upon the conclusions reached in the Post Buckley Schuh and
Jernigan report, and the in-house studies made by the Department,
the recommended procedure for making necessary repairs to assure
the continued operation of the Miamarina at Bayside is as
followss
Step 1. Remove all existing free standing mooring piles and
replace these with Greenheart pilings of a suitable size. The
extra piles should be used in conjunction with the rebuilding of
Dinner Key Marina or stored for future marina use. ($240,000)
Step 2. Rebuild finger piers and decks.
There are three alternatives to Step 2:
(A) Post Buckley proposal: ($660,000) Maximum utilization will
be made of the present Greenheart deck material. Repairs
will be made to the existing piers, concrete caps and
pilings, and gunnite applied. This alternative is the least
expensive, but since most of the existing elements to be
left in place are in doubtful condition, maintenance and
liability will be costlier and the life expectancy will be
shorter than the other two alternatives below.
(B) Public Works' proposal: ($981,600) To use the existing
concrete piles, but with new caps and deck. This is a
design of simple construction, a very inexpensive solution
to the problem, with a life expectancy of about 15 years,
and reduced liability and maintenance costs.
(C) Similar to the design used in Dinner Key Marina:
($1,580,000) New piling and pier caps with 40 ft. spacing.
This design does not look too favorable due to extensive
replacement of fire, water and utility lines.

Step 3. Placement of a suitable wave attenuator stop either on
the north side of Pier 1 or under the existing railroad highway
approach to the Port. Cost plus permitting should determine
appropriate course of action. ($335,000 to $585,000)
Attached are cost estimates for each step plus the total proposed
appropriations needed at the present time.
Following completion of the above, it is recommended that
floating piers be installed along the southerly part of the west
walls to provide better mooring facilities for small boats. If
in Step 2 the alternative B or C is chosen, the replaced decks
could be used for the floating pier surfaces.
