HomeMy WebLinkAboutR-23-0344City of Miami Resolution R-23-0344 Legislation City Hall 3500 Pan American Drive Miami, FL 33133 www.miamigov.com File Number: 14337 Final Action Date: 7/27/2023 A RESOLUTION OF THE MIAMI CITY COMMISSION, WITH ATTACHMENT(S), DECLARING NO OBJECTION AND SUPPORTING THE FLORIDA DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION ("FDOT") PROJECT TO ENHANCE TRAFFIC SAFETY FOR PEDESTRIANS AND VEHICLES ON NW 36TH STREET FROM EAST OF NW 11TH AVENUE WITHIN THE LIMITS OF THE CITY OF MIAMI ("CITY") INCLUDING THE REMOVAL OF TWO (2) ON - STREET PARKING SPACES AS DEPICTED IN EXHIBIT "A," ATTACHED AND INCORPORATED, AND PERFORMING A LOCAL DETOUR THAT WOULD REDIRECT TRAFFIC THROUGH CITY ROADS SUCH AS NW 10TH AVENUE, NW 37TH AVENUE, AND NW 11TH AVENUE IN BOTH DIRECTIONS (WESTBOUND AND EASTBOUND) AS FURTHER DEPICTED IN EXHIBIT "B," ATTACHED AND INCORPORATED; DIRECTING THE CITY CLERK TO TRANSMIT A COPY OF THIS RESOLUTION TO THE DISTRICT SECRETARY OF THE FDOT, DISTRICT SIX; PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE. SPONSOR(S): Commissioner Christine King WHEREAS, the Florida Department of Transportation ("FDOT") is developing a design project to enhance traffic safety for pedestrians and vehicles on Northwest 36th Street from East of Northwest 11 th Avenue within the limits of the City of Miami ("City") ("Project"); and WHEREAS, the Project consists of adding a new midblock crossing as a High Intensity Activated Crosswalk Beacon ("HAWK"), restricting the southbound movement at Northwest 11th Avenue (north -leg) to right -turn only, widening the sidewalk for pedestrian crossing and upgrading curb ramps, reconstructing the existing bus stop on the northeast corner of State Road 25 and NW 11th Avenue, repaving and restriping the road, and reconstructing driveways within the new sidewalk areas improving pedestrian signage and lighting; and WHEREAS, in order to implement the Project, FDOT requires the removal of two (2) on - street parking spaces as depicted in Exhibit "A," attached and incorporated, and performing a local detour that would redirect travel through City roads such as NW 10th Avenue, Northwest 37th Avenue, and Northwest 11th Avenue in both directions (westbound and eastbound) as depicted in Exhibit "B," attached and incorporated ("Local Requirements"); and WHEREAS, the Miami City Commission has no objection and supports the proposed Project including the Local Requirements; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA: Section 1. The recitals and findings contained in the Preamble of this Resolution are adopted by reference and incorporated as if fully set forth in this Section. The Miami City Commission declares no objection and supports the FDOT Project including the Local Requirements. Section 3. The City Clerk is directed to transmit a copy of this Resolution to the District Secretary of the Florida Department of Transportation, District Six. Section 4. This Resolution shall become effective immediately upon its adoption.
