You have organized a great coalition of partners and volunteers from throughout South Florida to build one of our region's best palm collections. It has been very impressive to see the Palmetum develop in recent years, and I am proud that Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden has been part of the team. Palms are among the world's most valuable plants, supporting the livelihood of people throughout the world. They are icons of the tropics and have strong cultural significance within our local community. Of more than 2,000 palm species worldwide, you have selected over 90 that represent South Florida, the broader Caribbean, and all other palm growing regions including Madagascar and New Caledonia. All major groups of palms are represented, including those that provide food, medicine, and shelter. Through careful curation, you have ensured that the palms are accurately fAf1fYA/1 ^f^f Y11ClI fM ]TP1l1 f Yl/Y fYlffPt 1fY1A/1 +A +h., h; - I- ,+ Y'.1lCCY MId C+rf-Y Y•r: 1 L'V1fh pla„r collect a>y1, went by se, the ght the Supported by Fairchild Tropical Botanical Garden, Montgomery Botanical Center, local public and private schools. museum quality collection that is freely accessible to the public.
