A RESOLUTION OF THE MIAMI CITY COMMISSION RESCINDING
RESOLUTION NOS. 02-498 AND 02-596, ADOPTED ON APRIL 25, 2002, AND
MAY 23, 2002, RESPECTIVELY, CO -DESIGNATING
SOUTHEAST/SOUTHWEST 9TH STREET, FROM BRICKELL PLAZA TO
SOUTHWEST 1ST AVENUE AS "BEETHOVEN'S NINTH SYMPHONY
STREET," PURSUANT TO SECTION 54-137 OF THE CODE OF THE CITY OF
MIAMI, FLORIDA, AS AMENDED ("CITY CODE") AND REPLACING IN LIEU
THEREOF, WITH A RESOLUTION OF THE MIAMI CITY COMMISSION CO -
DESIGNATING SOUTHWEST/SOUTHEAST 9TH STREET FROM BRICKELL
PLAZA TO SOUTHWEST 1ST AVENUE, MIAMI, FLORIDA AS "CHABAD
STREET" PURSUANT TO SECTION 54-137 OF THE CITY CODE; FURTHER
DIRECTING THE CITY CLERK TO TRANSMIT A COPY OF THIS
RESOLUTION TO THE HEREIN DESIGNATED OFFICIALS.
SPONSOR(S): Mayor Francis X. Suarez, Commissioner Sabina Covo
WHEREAS, the Rok Family Shul - Chabad Downtown Jewish Center located at 35 SE
9th Street, Miami, FL 33131 is an important place of worship and resource for Miami's Jewish
community; and
WHEREAS, the current co -designation of SE/SW 9th Street from Brickell Plaza to
Southwest 1st Avenue is Beethoven's Ninth Symphony Street is not reflective of the present
makeup of the street; and
WHEREAS, the Chairman of the Miami Symphony Orchestra, Rafael Diaz-Balart, has
publicly endorsed re -designating the street to honor the contributions of the Shul and Jewish
community; and
WHEREAS, the City of Miami Commission wishes to respect the wishes of the
congregants and faith leaders within the Shul and Jewish community by co -designating
Southeast/Southwest 9th Street from Brickell Plaza to Southwest 1st Avenue, Miami, Florida as
"Chabad Street";
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF
MIAMI, FLORIDA:
Section 1. The recitals and findings contained in the Preamble to this Resolution are
adopted by reference and incorporated as if fully set forth in this Section.
Section 2. Resolution Nos. 02-498 and 02-596, adopted on April 25, 2002, and May 23,
2002, respectively, co -designating Southeast/Southwest 9th Street from Brickell Plaza to
Southwest 1st Avenue as "Beethoven's Ninth Symphony Street," pursuant to Section 54-137 of
the City Code is hereby rescinded.

Section 3. The City Commission hereby co -designates Southeast/Southwest 9th Street
from Brickell Plaza to Southwest 1st Avenue, Miami, Florida as "Chabad Street".
Section 4. The City Clerk is directed to transmit a copy of this Resolution to the
Departments of Police, Fire -Rescue, Solid Waste, the Miami -Dade County Department of
Transportation and Public Works, the United States Postal Service, and, if a State of Florida
road, to the Florida Department of Transportation, District Six, for sign installation within the
newly designated roadways.
Section 5. This Resolution shall become effective immediately upon its adoption.
