MDC Tree Planting Grant Agreement
Purpose of Item:
A resolution of the Miami City Commission accepting a grant awarded to the City of
Miami ("City") in the not to exceed amount of twenty thousand, two hundred eighty-two
dollars ($) ("Grant Funds") from Miami -Dade County ("Grantor") Growing Roots for
Environmentally Equitable Neighborhoods (GREEN) Program and appropriating a
required City fund match in the not to exceed amount of twenty thousand, two hundred
eighty-two dollars ($20,282) for the Royal Road Landscape Beautification Project
("Project").
Background of Item:
The City of Miami has been awarded a grant in the amount of $20,282 from the Miami -
Dade County Growing Roots for Environmentally Equitable Neighborhoods (GREEN)
Program. Matching funds from the City in the amount of $20,282 are required as a
condition of said grant and are available from the Citywide Tree Planting Project, 40-
B183600. The City wishes to undertake such activities provided in the scope of work in
Exhibit A of this Agreement. The City is responsible for the maintenance of the trees
after completion of the project.

A RESOLUTION OF THE MIAMI CITY COMMISSION, WITH ATTACHMENT(S),
ACCEPTING A GRANT FROM MIAMI-DADE COUNTY IN AN AMOUNT NOT TO
EXCEED TWENTY THOUSAND TWO HUNDRED EIGHTY-ONE DOLLARS AND
FIFTY CENTS ($20,281.50) ("GRANT") FOR THE GROWING ROOTS FOR
ENVIRONMENTALLY EQUITABLE NEIGHBORHOODS PROGRAM AND
ALLOCATING AND APPROPRIATING A REQUIRED CITY MATCH IN AN AMOUNT
NOT TO EXCEED TWENTY THOUSAND TWO HUNDRED EIGHTY-ONE DOLLARS
AND FIFTY CENTS ($20,281.50); FURTHER AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER
TO NEGOTIATE AND EXECUTE AN AGREEMENT AND ANY ADDITIONAL
NECESSARY DOCUMENTS, ALL IN FORMS ACCEPTABLE TO THE CITY
ATTORNEY, FOR THE ACCEPTANCE OF THE GRANT.
WHEREAS, the City of Miami ("City") has been awarded a grant in an amount not to
exceed twenty thousand two hundred eighty-one dollars and fifty cents ($20,281.50) ("Grant")
from Miami -Dade County ("County") for the Growing Roots for Environmentally Equitable
Neighborhoods Program ("GREEN Program"); and
WHEREAS, the County established the GREEN Program to plant trees with
municipalities and organizations on County corridors as part of an effort to reach the Million
Trees Miami goal of achieving a thirty percent (30%) tree canopy; and
WHEREAS, matching funds from the City in the amount not to exceed twenty thousand
two hundred eighty-one dollars and fifty cents ($20,281.50) are required as a condition of the
Grant and are available from the Citywide Tree Planting Project, 40-B183600; and
WHEREAS, the City wishes to undertake such activities provided in the scope of work
found in the Tree Plan Agreement, attached and incorporated as Exhibit "A"; and
WHEREAS, the City is responsible for the maintenance of the trees after completion of
the project; and
WHEREAS, it is appropriate for the City Manager to accept the Grant and allocate and
appropriate the required City match and to negotiate and execute an agreement and any
additional necessary documents, all in forms acceptable to the City Attorney the for acceptance
of the Grant;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF
MIAMI, FLORIDA:
Section 1. The recitals and findings contained in the Preamble of this Resolution are
adopted by reference and incorporated as if fully set forth in this Section.
Section 2. The Grant is hereby accepted from the County.
Section 3. The City Manager is hereby authorized' to allocate and appropriate the
City's required matching funds, in an amount not to exceed Twenty Thousand Two Hundred
Eighty One Dollars and Fifty Cents ($20,281.50) from the Citywide Tree Planting Project, 40-
B183600.
Section 4. The City Manager is hereby authorized' to negotiate and execute a grant
agreement and any necessary documents, all in forms acceptable to the City Attorney, for the
acceptance of the Grant.
Section 5. This Resolution shall become effective immediately upon its adoption and
signature of the Mayor.2

1 The herein authorization is further subject to compliance with all legal requirements that may be
imposed by the City Attorney, including but not limited to, those prescribed by applicable City Charter and
City Code provisions.
2 If the Mayor does not sign this Resolution, it shall become effective at the end of ten (10) calendar days
from the date it was passed and adopted. If the Mayor vetoes this Resolution, it shall become effective
immediately upon override of the veto by the City Commission.
