Miami, FL 33172-5800 August 10, 2022 SECRETARY The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) is requesting the City of Miami Commission adopt a resolution to designate/rename sections of the state highway system. The Florida State Legislature recently passed Senate Bill 160 which included roadway designations within your jurisdiction. Attached is a copy of Senate Bill 160 that includes the roadways, limits and new roadway names, as shown below. Designation Limits Jurisdiction Bellas Artes Way U.S. 41/SW 8th Street between SW 21' Avenue and SW 22nd Avenue City of Miami Soul of Miami Avenue NW 12th Avenue/John Henry Peavy Jr. Avenue between NW 62nd Street and NW 71 st Street City of Miami It is the responsibility of the FDOT to order and install the signs for the newly designated roadways. According to the State of Florida Legislature, Section 334.071, Florida Statues, (F.S.), FDOT may not erect the markers for honorary road or bridge designations unless the affected city commissions enact a resolution supporting the designation. The fabrication process typically takes eight weeks. During this timeframe, FDOT's Public Outreach and Media Specialist, Tish Burgher, will coordinate sign installation ceremonies, as needed, with your office. Morgan Road and S.W. 14th Street in Palm Beach County is designated as "Deputy Sheriff Donta Manuel and Deputy Sheriff Jonathan Wallace Highway." (2) Bridge number 100850 on S.R. 60/Courtney Campbell Causeway over Old Tampa Bay in Hillsborough County is designated as "Virginia Creighton Bridge." (3) The intersection of S.W. 23rd Avenue and S.W. 8th Street in Miami - Dade County is designated as "Arturo Diaz Artiles Plaza." (4) That portion of W. Columbus Drive between N. Himes Avenue and N. MacDill Avenue in Hillsborough County is designated as "Maximino Capdevila Road." Bay Boulevard and U.S. 98 in Santa Rosa County is designated as "Ira Mae Wells -Bruce Memorial Highway." (15) That portion of Bayfront Parkway between Tarragona Street and N. 17th Avenue in Escambia County is designated as "Pensacola Police Fallen Heroes Highway." (16) The Cow Key Channel Bridge, bridge numbers 900086 and 900125, between milepost 4.100 and milepost 4.169 on Overseas Highway in Monroe County is designated as "Cheryl H. Cates Memorial Bridge." (17) That portion of S.R. 953/N.W. 42nd Avenue/Le Jeune Road between N.W. llth Street and N.W. 14th Street in Miami -Dade County is designated as "Oswaldo Paya Way." (18) That portion of S.R. 82 between Veronica S. Shoemaker Boulevard and Ortiz Avenue in Lee County is designated as "Coach Guy Thomas Memorial Highway." (19) That portion of North University Drive between S.R. 827 and the Sawgrass Expressway is designated as "Michael Moskowitz Drive." (20) That portion of S.R. 408/Spessard L.
