Illegal Trash Estimate
• Our estimate of the yearly illegal trash amount in the City of Miami is
based on three sources:
• Dedicated trash pickup team's estimate
• Citations related to illegal trash
• Review of photos of trash that is to be believed to be illegal
• Based on the above the yearly illegal trash is estimated to be 4,550
tons

Reassessment of the $380 Annual Waste Fee
• Introduced in 2010. Consumer Price Index (CPI) estimated to show an
increase of 36% by October 2022.
• Based on the CPI development, the annual waste fee should be $517
• Peer review
• Neighboring municipalities & counties:
• Miami Dade: $484. Trash is very limited (2x year and limited to 50 cubic yard)
• Hollywood: $540, Coral Springs: $403, Ft. Lauderdale: $529, Hialeah: $399
• Seattle: $ 1,516 excluding trash
• New York: $ 1,459 garbage only (*)
• Stockholm (Europe): $ 416 excluding trash
• Rotterdam (Europe): $ 400 excluding trash

Policies — Seattle & Orlando
• Easy to report illegal trash (App, Online form, central department)
• The cost to clean up is appx. 5 times the cost to clean up illegal trash
• Strict enforcement of laws
• In 2020, Mayor Durkan launched the Clean City campaign that
included: Clean City Initiative,
• Clean City Initiative. Additional SPU (Seattle Public Utilities) Community Litter
Routes
• Park & Neighborhood Focus Events
• Increased trash pick-up from encampments and RVs
• Additional needle collection efforts

Policies - Orlando
• Orlando has different options to report and prevent illegal dumping:
• Report illegal dumping to the City's Code Enforcement Department at
407.246.4444
• Form a Neighborhood Watch Program 407.246.2369 and get to know your
neighbors
• Form neighborhood cleanups. The quicker debris from illegal dumping is
removed, the less likely it is for them to return
• Call KOB at 407.246.2752 or email keeporlandobeautiful@orlando.gov for
assistance

Anti -Trash Dumping Policies Outside USA
• Free Trash pickup on demand service. Free use of trailer
• Multiple recycling stations throughout the city at convenient places
• More dumping stations and better promotion of it
