BACKUP ORIGINAL CAN BE SEEN AT THE END OF THIS DOCUMENT. 12304 1,123isla,hon-5u8 File ID: 12304 Enactment Number: R-22-0281 WHEREAS, The Foundation has a robust scholarship fund portfolio that works to help students gain access to higher education; and 01— m z WHEREAS, The Foundation, initially in a partnership with Miami -Dade College, Florida z z W Memorial University, The University of Miami, and Florida international University ("Colleges and o u m Universities") wish to collaborate with the City to establish the Venture Miami Scholarship m - a o Program ("Program"); and 4,1 z o co 3 ill m p- _ WHEREAS, the purpose of the Program is to afford recent City high school graduates an '^ o I — opportunity to pursue a science, technology, engineering, or mathematics ("STEM") degree with ,a n o no tuition cost when attending either of the Colleges and Universities stated herein ("Purpose"); - Z andmW J = WHERAS, a goal of the Program is to invest in at -need City residents that have been u a accepted and pursue a bachelor's degree in a defined STEM or high wage/demand occupation o Z at either of the Colleges and Universities stated herein; and = o WHEREAS, the City intends to expand the Program over time, as additional funding becomes available; and WHEREAS, the City wishes to allocate an initial amount not to exceed Five Hundred Thousand Dollars ($500,000.00) ("Funds") to the Program; and WHEREAS, The Foundation agrees to assume full responsibility for the set-up, acceptance, and management of the Funds, including any future allocations, and the Pgrag, for the Purpose stated herein; and T' ^' Er) N nm WHEREAS, The Colleges and Universities have agreed to provide various maing g contributions for the Program that align with enrollment numbers; and ® p -*trr WHEREAS, the City Commission authorizes the City Manager to negotiate a d xec any and all documents necessary, including extensions, renewals and modifications,-i'ip ailn foss acceptable to the City Attorney, for the Program; and r- ca rn WHEREAS, pursuant to Section 18-85(a) of the City Code, the City Manager has made a written finding, attached and incorporated as Exhibit "A," that competitive negotiation methods and procedures are not practicable or advantageous for the City's provision of said Funds for the Program; and WHEREAS, the City Manager is requesting authority from the City Commission to negotiate and execute any and all documents necessary, in a form acceptable to the City Attorney, for said allocation of Funds for the Program; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA: Section 1. The recitals and findings contained in the Preamble of this Resolution are adopted by reference and incorporated herein as if fully set forth in this Section. Section 2. Section 3. The City Manager is authorized' to allocate Funds from the City Manager's Venture Miami Initiative Account No. 00001.150009.882000.0000.00000 in an amount not to exceed Five Hundred Thousand Dollars ($500,000.00) to The Foundation for the establishment and initial funding of the Program. Section 4. The City Manager is further authorized' to execute any and all documents necessary, in a form acceptable to the City Attorney, for said purpose. Section 5. This Resolution shall become effective immediately upon its adoption.
