BACKGROUND
The City of Miami ("City") received American Rescue Plan Act funding to address COVID-19 and
its impact on public health as well as address economic harms to households, small businesses,
nonprofits, impacted industries, and the public sector.
Bay of Pigs Museum and Library of the Brigade 2506 is a veteran -ran Museum dedicated to
compiling the history of Brigade 2506 and related events. The museum puts the historic
information together in a manner that can be presented and distributed to the public, both in
personal presentations by veterans and through audio-visual material. The museum houses a
library of both literatures related to Cuba and Bay of Pigs History, and an expanding
audiovisuals library curated by the foremost historian on the matter. The museum sits in Little
Havana, it is visited by 400 plus visitors a month, it is listed as the 14th most visited museum in
Dade County and its website is viewed by 14,000 people a month.
The museum was closed for two years because of the Pandemic and its closure, together with
the closure of other Little Havana sites, significantly reduced the economic activity in the area.
ARPA Funding will go towards hiring a new museum manager, museum audio visual
expansion, and display items.
RECOMMENDATION
In light of the above stated, approval of a waiver of the formal requirements of competitive
sealed bidding methods as not being practicable or advantageous to the City as set forth in the
City Code of Ordinances, as amended, specifically Section 18-85 (A), and the affirmation of
these written findings and the forwarding of the same to the City Commission for ratification by
a f•ur fif hs`vote is respectfully requested.
