At its June 9, 2022, meeting, the City Commission adopted the above referenced agenda
item, RE.13, supporting the Virginia Key Beach Park Trust ("VKBPT") Summer Backpack
Drive Program ("Program"), authorizing the allocation of funds from the District 2
Commissioner's discretionary fund in the total amount of five thousand dollars ($5,000.00) to
the VKBPT for costs associated with the implementation of the Program, and authorizing the
City Manager to negotiate and execute any and all necessary documents, in a form acceptable to
the City Attorney, for said purpose. The item inadvertently published with an incorrect
description of the effective date.
The Legislation has been corrected and incremented to Revision A.

A RESOLUTION OF THE MIAMI CITY COMMISSION ("CITY") SUPPORTING THE
VIRGINIA KEY BEACH PARK TRUST SUMMER BACKPACK DRIVE PROGRAM;
AUTHORIZING THE ALLOCATION OF FUNDS FROM THE DISTRICT 2
COMMISSIONER'S DISCRETIONARY FUND IN THE TOTAL AMOUNT OF FIVE
THOUSAND DOLLARS ($5,000.00) TO THE VIRGINIA KEY BEACH PARK TRUST
("VKBPT"), FOR COSTS ASSOCIATED WITH THE IMPLEMENTATION OF THE
SUMMER BACKPACK DRIVE PROGRAM AS MORE PARTICULARLY DESCRIBED
HEREIN; AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO NEGOTIATE AND EXECUTE ANY
AND ALL NECESSARY DOCUMENTS, IN A FORM ACCEPTABLE TO THE CITY
ATTORNEY, FOR SAID PURPOSE.
WHEREAS, the Virginia Key Beach Park Trust ("VKBPT") is a limited agency and
instrumentality of the City of Miami ("City") created to preserve the Historic Virginia Key
Beach Park (the "Park") property in a manner consistent with the environmental health,
public use, historical importance of the park and the aspirations of the African American
community; and
WHEREAS, the VKBPT created the Summer Backpack Program ("Pro mIto

support children in the City; and
WHEREAS, community -based organizations such as Family & ChildrejFaith-
Coalition Inc. d/b/a Hope for Miami, Overtown Youth Center Inc., Miami Bridgi-Youtb
And Family Services, Inc., Chapman Partnership Inc., Center for Family & Chifct2 •-
Enrichment, Inc. and Girl Power Rocks, Inc. have previously benefited as recipLeents`g
the Program; and
WHEREAS, since the inception of the Program more than 300 Summer Back
Packs have been distributed to children in need; and
WHEREAS, the District 2 Commissioner Ken Russell desires to allocate funds to
the Program in the amount of five thousand dollars ("$5,000.00") from his district's
discretionary account, thereby funding an additional 63 backpacks, food boxes, and the
Fun Summer Bash Day event for each child and their family on August 1, 2022, in
support of Children in the City and recognition of the Historic Virginia Key Beach Park's
77th Anniversary; and
WHEREAS, the donating Commissioner can accompany the Virginia Key Beach
Park Trust Team on distribution day, and greet their constituents at the Summer Fun
Day Bash on August 1, 2022; and
WHEREAS, the City Commission supports the Program and authorize the City
Manager to allocate five thousand dollars ($5,000.00), from the District 2

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY
OF MIAMI, FLORIDA:
Section 1. The recitals and findings contained in the Preamble to this Resolution
are adopted by reference and incorporated as if fully set forth in this Section.
Section 2. The City Commission supports the Program.
Section 3. The allocation, from the District 2 Commissioner's discretionary
fund, in a total amount of five thousand dollars ($5,000.00), to the Trust for the Program
as described herein, is authorized'.
Section 4. The City Manager is further authorized' to negotiate and execute any
and all necessary documents, in a form acceptable to the City Attorney, for said
purpose.
Section 5. This Resolution shall become effective immediately upon its adoption
and signature of the Mayor.
