HomeMy WebLinkAboutLegislation-SUBCity of Miami Resolution R-22-0216 Legislation City Hall 3500 Pan American Dri Miami, FL 33133 www.miamigov.com File Number: 12041 Final Action Date: 6/9/2022 A RESOLUTION OF THE MIAMI CITY COMMISSION ("CITY") SUPPORTING THE VIRGINIA KEY BEACH PARK TRUST SUMMER BACKPACK DRIVE PROGRAM; AUTHORIZING THE ALLOCATION OF FUNDS FROM THE DISTRICT 2 COMMISSIONER'S DISCRETIONARY FUND IN THE TOTAL AMOUNT OF FIVE THOUSAND DOLLARS ($5,000.00) TO THE VIRGINIA KEY BEACH PARK TRUST ("VKBPT"), FOR COSTS ASSOCIATED WITH THE IMPLEMENTATION OF THE SUMMER BACKPACK DRIVE PROGRAM S MORE PARTICULARLY DESCRIBED HEREIN; AUTHORIZING THE CI1°'i MANAGER TO NEGOTIATE AND EXECUTE ANY AND ALL NECESSPY DOCUMENTS, IN A FORM ACCEPTABLE TO THE CITY ATTORNEY,1OR SAID PURPOSE. fllam ri SPONSOR(S): Commissioner Ken Russell qn, 3-� WHEREAS, the Virginia Key Beach Park Trust ("VKBPT") is a limited agenr ar, instrumentality of the City of Miami ("City") created to preserve the Historic Virginia;Keyu' Beach Park (the "Park") property in a manner consistent with the environmental health, public use, historical importance of the park and the aspirations of the African American community; and N O WHEREAS, the VKBPT created the Summer Backpack Program ("Program") to support children in the City; and WHEREAS, community -based organizations such as Family & Children Faith Coalition Inc. d/b/a Hope for Miami, Overtown Youth Center Inc., Miami Bridge Youth And Family Services, Inc., Chapman Partnership Inc., Center for Family & Child Enrichment, Inc. and Girl Power Rocks, Inc. have previously benefited as recipients of the Program; and WHEREAS, since the inception of the Program more than 300 Summer Back Packs have been distributed to children in need; and WHEREAS, the District 2 Commissioner Ken Russell desires to allocate funds to the Program in the amount of five thousand dollars ("$5,000.00") from his district's discretionary account, thereby funding an additional 63 backpacks, food boxes, and the Fun Summer Bash Day event for each child and their family on August 1, 2022, in support of Children in the City and recognition of the Historic Virginia Key Beach Park's 77th Anniversary; and City of Miami Page 1 of 2 File ID: 12041 (Revision: A) Printed On: 7/20/2022 Z z LLJ O U • O Nzo 03 • o LL a � Z Q 4J m W ✓ a ~ • z_ • I z W �0V lla 0 rn f 2 041 L eai5 I Qfior - Su G Z to File ID: 12041 Enactment Number: R-22-0216 o Z w Q WHEREAS, the donating Commissioner can accompany the Virginia Key Beach F o Park Trust Team on distribution day, and greet their constituents at the Summer Fun m N Day Bash on August 1, 2022; and N 2i ao� WHEREAS, the City Commission supports the Program and authorize the City ina o Manager to allocate five thousand dollars ($5,000.00), from the District 2 z a W Commissioner's discretionary account, to the Trust for costs associated with the g CO x implementation of the Program. u a z owz NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY N �c w OF MIAMI, FLORIDA: Section 1. The recitals and findings contained in the Preamble to this Resolution are adopted by reference and incorporated as if fully set forth in this Section. Section 2. The City Commission supports the Program. Section 3. The allocation, from the District 2 Commissioner's discretionary fund, in a total amount of five thousand dollars ($5,000.00), to the Trust for the Program as described herein, is authorized'. Section 4. The City Manager is further authorized' to negotiate and execute any and all necessary documents, in a form acceptable to the City Attorney, for said purpose. Section 5. This Resolution shall become effective immediately upon its adoption. APPROVED AS TO FORM AND CORRECTNESS: The herein authorization is further subject to compliance with all legal requirements that may be imposed, including but not limited to those prescribed by applicable City Charter and City Code provisions.
