BACKGROUND
The City of Miami ("City") created the Anti -Poverty Initiative to address poverty and focus on providing
support to its residents.
Multi -Ethnic Youth Group Association, Inc. (MEYGA) (the organization) is a not for profit company that
provides a wide range of social services to children, families, individuals, and senior citizens in the City
of Miami. The MEYGA Emphasizing Year -Round Growth and Achievement will provide enhanced year-
round social services to children, families, individuals and senior citizens that include tools to alleviate
poverty. These tools will include academic services, job readiness, job placement, transportation
access, and referral services. MEYGA rceived funds in November 2021 for MEYGA LC's Preparing Students
for Success program, which purchased IT equipment to aid participants with reading comprehension, fluency,
and speed.
As the Organization is familiar with the needs of the community and the district, it would be advantageous
for the City to expedite the allocation and waive procurement requirements at this time. Providing these
funds to the Organization will allow local businesses to obtain these services immediately, with no added
time for the procurement process, which could take over 30-40 days.
,RECOMMENDATION
In light of the above stated, approval of a waiver of the formal requirements of competitive sealed bidding
methods as not being practicable or advantageous to the City as set forth in the City Code of Ordinances, as
amended, specifically Section 18-85 (A), and the affirmation of these written findings and the forwarding
