Background of Item:
Fire -Rescue uses Airtraq to perform endotracheal intubation as its primary form of
airway management. In the field, getting a clear view of the trachea can be extremely
difficult. Airtraq is used on patients in emergency laryngoscopy procedures to get a
clear view of the larynx (voice box), the vocal cords, and nearby structures like the back
of the throat. Airtraq is the only video laryngoscope that uses a non -displacing blade
that does not move anatomy. Accordingly, EMS personnel can use the Airtraq on
patients with cervical collars, in traction, and those entrapped.
Previously, Airtraq was sold by Teleflex, LLC ("Teleflex"), which was approved as the
sole distributor under Sole Source No. 18-19-044. Airtraq is now manufactured by
Prodol Meditec, SA, a Spanish company with its US Offices at 2414 Lawton Lane,
Rowlett, TX 75089. Airtraq is sold exclusively through its North American distribution
partner, Mercury Medical. Fire -Rescue personnel experience a very high success rate
using Airtraq, in contrast to alternative products that have a higher failure rate which
compromise patients' care and cause the faster consumption of consumable supplies.
