I realize I am not a resident of miami. And I don't believe I
hold any right to indicate my support or opposite of this
1315 deal. However. I believe the greater county would
Linder Sorolla Ave 11715 : Discussion - benefit from a proper transit connection. Not the current
Sheldon CORAL Miami Freedom plan for a quarter mile walkway. Even Commissioner
GABLES Park Carollo said earlier today, we don't have adequate transit,
so why not use this deal to improve it. Ask for federal
dollars, and a contribution from inter-miami, and extend
the orange line one stop south directly to the park
This is a comment regarding PZ-8. As a professor of
Architecture and Urban Design at the University of Miami I
have dedicated my professional life to understanding
Cities through research and analysis. I believe it is short-
sighted to eliminate the easing of parking requirements in
areas near transit. It is true that Miami has historically
been a "Car City" however, our research shows that
allowing for innovative, small -scaled urban development
without parking requirements can help foster a culture of
transit -ridership and can also entice local small scale
developers to participate in the shaping of their
1627 neighborhoods. Indeed there may be some growing pains
11715 : Discussion -
Brickell associated with this mindset shift, but if you want Miami
Fett Avenue Miami Freedom to be a great American city, it will need better transit and
#1006 Park if this commission continues to placate to the car over the
pedestrian, what Miami will become is a city with a net
density too high to avoid serious traffic congestion and
too low to support transit investment. In my observation,
the City Commission has used anecdotal evidence to argue
against parking reductions and very little empirical data
and case study analysis. Furthermore, it is frustrating to
consistently hear why a proposal doesn't work (e.g.
parking reductions, scooters, ride -share) with seldom a
counter -proposal from the public sector that provides a
solution. Thank you for your consideration in this
important matter.
