The fie is based on the
original price of $40 mil-
lion.... The full construction
document will be ready,
and we should be shovel
ready, by September.'
Peter Igilesies
"This fee is based on the original
price of $40 million," Mr. Iglesias
said. 'We feel it's an appropriate
purchase for the mobility hub and
basedonaprojectthat's slightlymore
compl ex. The ful l con st mct ion do cu-
ment will be ready, and we should
be shovel ready, by September of
this year."
TheCoral GablesMobilityHubm,
is set for 245 Andalusia Ave., is
projected to be completed by the
first quarter of 2024. The city has
signed an agreement with Weitz
Company to manage construction,
including demolition ofthe existing
parking garage where the hub will
rise— costing the city an additional
$1.5 million.
The hub is to have an internal
drive-thru lane for ridesharing
services, retail and bicycle storage.
It will also offer dockless vehicle
parking, bike share do cking stations,
awi-fi lormge, e-commercelogistics
for drone package deliveries and
pop-up coffee shops.
City staff recently met with the
Florida Department of Transporta-
tion(FDOT), which was thoroughly
impressed and encouraged the city
to apply for federal grant monies,
said Naomi Levi -Garcia, assistant
cityattomey and intergovernmental
affairs manager.
"We are about to do the deadline
for the raise grant," she said. "We
will be seeking I believe $6 million
from that grant and hopefully we'll
besuccessfid. So, it checks offallthe
boxes interns ofbeing amultimodal
facility, bringing the trolley into play
andjustcreating lots ofopportunities
for people to get around outside of
their cars"
The city is also working with a
federal lobbyist, who is actively
looking for grants and monies to
fund a project like this that checks
alltheboxes for federal funding, Mr.
Iglesias added
"We have no prior resolution on
the demolition or demolition plans.
The reason why we do not proceed
is because in our meetings with the
FDOT federal procurement, we
cannot bid out the contract and then
go back and try to make a federal
procurement," he said. "So, it's very
important that we have the time to
make sure that we have the proper
bidding or the proper GMP (good
manufacturingpractices)procedures
to make sure that we qualify for that
federal funding."

MADELINE PUMARIEGA
PRESIDENTA DEL MIAMI DADE COLLEGE
0
Graduarse de una carrera
es uno de los aconteci-
mientos mas importantes
en la vida de cualquier
persona con aspiraciones.
Una maravillosa sensation
de logro y realization, el
comienzo de nuevos sue-
fios y metes. Dejar de ser
estudiante para conver-
tirse en profesional, es el
otro gran reto para enfren-
tarpare incorporarsealre-
novado mundo laboral.
Los cambios que la revo-
luci6n digital ha impuesto
en el mundo y el paso de la
pandemia de coronavirus
han ampliado el panorama
laboral con nuevos forma-
tos que pretenden mejorar
la comunicacion, acelerar
los procesos y mejorar la
calidad del servicio.
El trabajo remote y el
coworking son solo algu-
nos, a los cuales incor-
poramos la inteligencia
artificial, con el surgi-
miento de las primeras
compafiias en escala so-
brehumana, empresas con
miles de millones de usua-
rios, donde los algoritmos
de (AI) son la manera de Ile-
var a cabo sus negocios. Los
jovenes de hoy estan muy
relacionados con estas
nuevas formas de operar.
Me siento muy satisfecha
al ver coma nuestra insti-
tuci6n esta energizando
su futuro incorporando
nuevos metodos de ense-
fianza que se alinean con
las necesidades del mer-
cado actual. La prueba de
nuestro exito son los mas
de 14.000 alumnos que re-
ciben sus titulos el sabado
23 de abril, en tres cere-
manias al aire fibre, que se
Bevan a cabo en el LoanDe-
pot Park, sede delos Miami
Marlins. Muchos de ellos
estan recibiendo premios
y distinciones tras culmi-
nar su ciclo de estudios
en el Miami Dade College;
edemas de la transferen-
cia alas universidades mas
prestigiosas del pais.
La ceremonia de gra-
duaci6n es una de las tra-
dieiones mas queridas
de nuestra institution y
entre los estudiantes des-
tacados este afio hay una
cifra record de 40 semi-
finalistas a la prestigiosa
beca de transferencia uni-
versitaria Jack Kent Cooke
Undergraduate Transfer
Scholarship, altamente
competitive, la cual bene-
ficia a los finalistas con un
estipendio de 40.00o dola-
res anuales paracompletar
su licenciatura. El MDC ha
otorgado mas becas de esta
organization que cualquier
otro college de los EEUU.
Sin embargo, el camino no
siempre resulta facil para
todos, gran parte de nues-
tros alumnos combinan
trabajo y estudio, y confron-
tan dificultades econ6mi-
cas. El College les ofrecio
ayuda con becas e incenti-
ves pars garantizar su exito.
Estamos muy orgullosos de
lo que han logrado.
Entre los numerosos
ejemplos de superacion
que subiran al escenario
esta Lisbet Hernandez, del
Recinto Homestead, la pri-
mere de su familia en obte-
ner un titulo universitario,
e hija de un migrante mexi-
cano que cruzo la frontera y
solo pudo estudiar haste el
quinto grado. La destacada
alumna proseguira sus es-
tudios en la Universidad In-
ternacional de la Florida.
Tambien esta Camila
Rivas, quien ayud6 a cuidar
a su abuela con dementia
avanzada desde que el es-
taba en septimo grado. Vivir
esa experiencia alimentb su
interes para continuar estu-
dios en el campo de enfer-
meria. Rivas ha mantenido
un promedio de general de
calificaciones (GPA) per-
fecto de 4.0 pintos
Ademas, tenemos a Edgar
Rodriguez, un estudiante
de economia, que dejara
un legado impresionante
como fundador y copre-
sidente de Future Finance
Leaders, el primer club de-
dicado a las finanzas en el
Recinto Kendall. Trabaj6
con la Escuela Familiar Mi-
guel B. Fernandez de Ne-
gocios Globales, Comercio
y Transporte del MDC y
el Centro de Innovation y
Tecnologia Empresarial
(BIT) y ayud6 a fundar el
primer Fondo de Inver-
sion en la Criptomoneda
(SMIF), administrado por
Estudiantes del MDC.
Las graduations del MDC
siempre han contado con la
presencia de notables lide-
res y se espera la presen-
cia del Dr. Vivek Murthy,
secretario de Salud de los
Estados Unidos; Jeannete
Nufiez, vicegobernadora
de la Florida y Jason Taylor,
exjugador de los Miami Dol-
phins, quien recibira un di-
ploma honorifico.
Cada graduation es el fin
de una etapa exitosa, y no
quiero concluir sin antes
felicitar a todos los padres
y madres que veran a sus
hijos e hijas recibir sus
diplomas. Para mi, es el
mejor regalo que pueden
recibir por el proximo Dia
