BIDEN, JR., SENATORS RICK SCOTT AND MARCO RUBIO, AND REPRESENTATIVES CARLOS GIMENEZ, MARIA ELVIRA SALAZAR, AND MARIO DIAZ-BALART TO PROVIDE FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE TO THE CITY TO PROVIDE FOR A RAPIDLY GROWING COMMUNITY; DIRECTING THE CITY CLERK TO TRANSMIT A COPY OF THIS RESOLUTION TO THE OFFICIALS NAMED HEREIN. SPONSOR(S): Commissioner Joe Carollo WHEREAS, in 2021, over 1.5 million undocumented migrants entered the United States through its southern border; and WHEREAS, the City of Miami ("City") has experienced a significant increase in its population as thousands of immigrants and other citizens have come to settle in the City without financial support; and WHEREAS, on April 8, 2022, Daniella Levine Cava, Mayor of Miami -Dade County, declared an affordable housing crisis in Miami -Dade County; and WHEREAS, the rapid increase in the population has put a tremendous financial strain on the City to adequately provide housing, police, fire, ambulance, and other public services; and WHEREAS, the City Commission is requesting financial assistance from the Federal Government to lessen its financial strain in providing for a rapidly growing community; and WHEREAS, in accordance with Section 2-33(f) of the City Code, the City Commission, by a majority vote, hereby deems this Resolution to be of an emergency nature; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA: Section 1. The recitals and findings contained in the Preamble to this Resolution are adopted by reference and incorporated as if fully set forth in this Section. Section 2. The City Commission requests President Joseph R. Biden, Senators Rick Scott and Marco Rubio, and Representatives Carlos Gimenez, Maria Elvira Salazar, and Mario Diaz-Balart to provide financial assistance to the City to provide for a rapidly growing community. Section 3. The City Clerk is directed to transmit a copy of this Resolution to President Joseph R. Biden, Jr., Senators Rick Scott and Marco Rubio, and Representatives Carlos Gimenez, Maria Elvira Salazar, and Mario Diaz-Balart.
