Map
Recognizing that these situations do occur, FEMA established administrative procedures
to change the designation for these properties on the FIRM. These processes are
referred to as the Letter of Map Amendment (LOMA) process and the Letter of Map
Revision -Based on Fill (LOMR-F) process.
Through these processes, an individual who owns, rents or leases property may submit
certain mapping and survey information to FEMA and request that FEMA issue a
document that officially removes a property and/or structure from the SFHA. In most
cases, the applicant will need to hire a Licensed Land Surveyor or Registered
Professional Engineer to prepare an Elevation Certificate for the property.
Upon receiving a complete application forms package through mailing a paper form or
through the Online LOMC application, FEMA will normally complete its review and issue
its determination in 60 days.

FAIRCHILD TROPICAL BOTANIC GARL,N
Exploring, Explaining and Conserving the World of Tropical Plants
April 10, 2017
Elvis Cruz
631 NE 57 Street
Miami, FL 33137
Dear Elvis,
am writing to congratulate you on the success of the Morningside Park Palmetum for education,
conservation, and aesthetic value. You have organized a great coalition of partners and volunteers
from throughout South Florida to build one of our region's best palm collections. It has been very
impressive to see the Palmetum develop in recent years, and I am proud that Fairchild Tropical
Botanic Garden has been part of the team.
Palms are among the world's most valuable plants, supporting the livelihood of people throughout
the world. They are icons of the tropics and have strong cultural significance within our local
community. Of more than 2,000 palm species worldwide, you have selected over 90 that represent
South Florida, the broader Caribbean, and all other palm growing regions including Madagascar
and New Caledonia. All major groups of palms are represented, including those that provide food,
medicine, and shelter. Through careful curation, you have ensured that the palms are accurately
identified, databased, mapped, and maintained to the highest possible standard.
Within the continental United States, South Florida is the only frost -free region where so many
kinds of palms can be grown. Morningside Park presents a special opportunity to develop a
museum quality collection that is freely accessible to the public. The Palmetum has incredible
