Arts and Entertainment Council (MAEC) Annual Report 2021
1. The Art Council recognize quality art and entertainment in the City of Miami. The board
advocates, advise, and encourages public participation in all cultural, fine arts and
entertainment: MAEC seeks artists, entertainers, and knowledgeable individuals as honorary
members who shall advise and assist. The council serve as the City's official liaison with major
arts and entertainment facilities and organizations to attract art and entertainment to
government, private, or public agencies.
2. The board members are committed advocates, officially providing quality art to The City of
Miami. With discussion and analyzation, the council has addressed the evolving impact of the
arts and entertainment in the South Florida region. Our recommendation is that Miami
neighborhoods must better connect to the quality of our cultural and economic engine.
A. Discussed the organization's programing during the pandemic. The diversity of inclusion
and equity Miami's arts and entertainment fabric.
B. Listened to presentations by the Liberty City Trust Director Elaine Black on "Liberty City
Reimagined," an initiative to use art as a catalyst for economic and social development.
C. Discussed the continuing MAEC's annual "Paint Me Miami" and "Art Cafe" events.
Discussed resources for collaboration with artists, businesses, and attractions. The Greater
Miami Conventions & Business Bureau presented a presentation on Multicultural Tourism and
Development for Miami neighborhoods. The presenting host was Connie Kinnard, the Vice
President of the agency.

3. MAEC requests the city provide and enable the board members with the resources and
support to engage the diversity of Miami neighborhoods with quality -of -life art, culture, and
entertainment
The Arts and Entertainment Council re -convened monthly in -person
-meetings, March 2021.
A. Donated $2000(from Mayor's Funds) to The Motivational Edge Anniversary Program. The
program engages, educate, and empowers young people all backgrounds in Miami
neighborhoods. The creative arts are one of their developmental processes.
B. Discussed continuing MAEC's annual "Paint Me Miami" and "Art Cafe" events. "Paint Me
Miami" is an annual contest and art exhibition

the Miami brand. "Art Cafe "is rotating cultural arts pop up affair exploring Miami's diverse
neighborhoods through art, food, and conversation.
4. This board is equipped to perform the services it was created to do.
5. MAEC adopted a resolution asking the Commission to amend the following sections 2-887,
2-1141, 2-1143 and to create a new section 2-1144. These changes have been adapted to
enable the council to function more effectively.
The Board Advise and Request: The City of Miami should brand and connect Miami Arts and
Entertainment to Art Basel in a comprehensive relationship which would benefit Miami's art
interests. An official relationship between the City of Miami and The Art Basel Fair will create
economic and cultural development.

b. The board's membership requirements need no modifications.
7. Post -Pandemic the council look forward to continuing our efforts to support artists, art
education, and cultural events. With an increased budget allocation of $75,000 we would be
able to expand our reach of support for arts and entertainment in the City of Miami.
A detailed budget for the allocations of the funding will be presented to the City Commission.
