Florida international University ("FIU") has been commit(' d t providing excellent education that has ensured the success of its students and the State'of Florida; and SPONSOR(S): Commissioner Manolo Reyes WHEREAS. FIU remains one of the finest public universities in the United States, renowned for its myriad of outstanding programs, including over 180 bachelor's, master's, and doctoral programs; and WHEREAS, over the past seven (7) years, FIU has made investments in and implemented evidence -based, innovative programs resulting in the dramatic improvement of student success: and WHEREAS. the City of Miami ("City") is proud that FIU continued its rapid ascent in the 2022 U.S. News and World Report rankings with a 17-spot numerical ranking improvement to No. 78 among public universities in the nation; and WHEREAS; FIU's improvement is the greatest in F orida and third in the nation among public universities, and WHEREAS, FIU is ranked among the top five (5) public universities for social mobility for the first time, held on to the No. 2 spot in international business, named No. 17 as the most innovative public U.S. institutions and named No. 75 best college for veterans; and WHEREAS, the social and educational development of students is in the hands of public administrators who are entrusted with assisting students to reach their full potential: and WHEREAS, throughout the years. under the leadership of FIU's President, Ear. Mark B. Rosenberg ("Rosenberg"), students have excelled in a positive atmosphere for learning; and WHEREAS, our future depends upon the knowledge and motivation of today's students and it is appropriate that Rosenberg be recognized for his dedication and commitment to educating students of the City: and WHEREAS, the City Commission recognizes December9, 2021, as "Dr. Mark B. The recitals and findings contained in the Preamble of this Resolution are adopted by reference and incorporated as fully set forth in this Section. Section 2. The City Commission recognizes ❑ecember 9, 2021, as "Dr. Mark B. Rosenberg Day" in the City. Section 3. The City Commission directs the City Clerk to transmit a copy of this Resolution to Commissioner Richard Corcoran of the Florida Department of Education; Dean C. Colson, Rogelio Toyer, Cesar L. Alvarez, Jose J. Arnias, Carlos A. Duart, Donna J. Hrinak, Natasha Lowell. T. Gene Prescott, Joerg Reinhold; Chanel T. Rowe, Alexander Rubido, Marc. D.
