AN ORDINANCE OF THE MIAMI CITY COMMISSION NAMING THE PARCEL OF
LAND CONSISTING OF APPROXIMATELY 8,219 SQUARE FEET OF LAND
LOCATED AT 1 SOUTHWEST SOUTH RIVER DRIVE, MIAMI, FLORIDA AS "SIMON
BOLIVAR PARK"; AMENDING CHAPTER 38/ARTICLE I OF THE CODE OF THE CITY
OF MIAMI, FLORIDA, AS AMENDED ("CITY CODE"), TITLED "PARKS AND
RECREATION/IN GENERAL", BY CREATING SECTION 38-30 OF THE CITY CODE,
TITLED "NAMING OF SIMON BOLIVAR PARK"; FURTHER DIRECTING THE CITY
MANAGER TO TAKE ANY AND ALL ACTIONS NECESSARY TO EFFECTUATE THE
NAMING OF THE PARK; CONTAINING A SEVERABILITY CLAUSE; AND PROVIDING
FOR AN IMMEDIATE EFFECTIVE DATE.

BOLIVAR PARK"; AMENDING CHAPTER 38/ARTICLE I OF THE CODE OF THE CITY
OF MIAMI, FLORIDA, AS AMENDED ("CITY CODE"), TITLED "PARKS AND
RECREATION/IN GENERAL", BY CREATING SECTION 38-30 OF THE CITY CODE,
TITLED "NAMING OF SIMON BOLIVAR PARK"; FURTHER DIRECTING THE CITY
MANAGER TO TAKE ANY AND ALL ACTIONS NECESSARY TO EFFECTUATE THE
NAMING OF THE PARK; CONTAINING A SEVERABILITY CLAUSE; AND PROVIDING
FOR AN IMMEDIATE EFFECTIVE DATE.
WHEREAS, the City of Miami ("City") owns approximately 8,219 square feet of land
located at 1 Southwest South River Drive, Miami, Florida which it plans to develop into a park
("Park"); and
WHEREAS, the City may add additional parcels to the Park in the future; and
WHEREAS, Simon Jose Antonio de la Santisima Trinidad Bolivar y Ponte Palacios y
Blanco, widely known as Simon Bolivar ("Bolivar"), was a Venezuelan military and political
leader who led the countries now known as Venezuela, Bolivia, Columbia, Ecuador, Peru, and
Panama to independence from the Spanish Empire in the 19th century; and
WHEREAS, Bolivar is considered by many to be one of the greatest heroes of the
Hispanic independence movement and has been venerated as a national icon throughout much
of South America; and
WHEREAS, the City Commission wishes to honor Bolivar because of his significant
triumphs over the Spanish Empire, securing independence for many countries throughout South
America; and
WHEREAS, the City Commission has determined that it is appropriate for the Park to be
named "Simon Bolivar Park";
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF
MIAMI, FLORIDA:
Section 1. The recitals and findings contained in the Preamble to this Ordinance are
adopted by reference and incorporated as if fully set forth in this Section.

Section 2. Chapter 38/Article I of the Code of the City of Miami, Florida, as amended, is
further amended as follows:1
"CHAPTER 38
PARKS AND RECREATION
ARTICLE I. IN GENERAL
Sec. 38-30. Naming of Simon Bolivar Park.
a. The parcel of land consisting of approximately 8,219 square feet located at 1 Southwest
South River Drive, Miami, Florida shall be named the "Simon Bolivar Park."

Section 3. The City Manager is directed to take any and all actions necessary to
effectuate the naming of the Park.
Section 4. If any section, part of a section, paragraph, clause, phrase, or word of this
Ordinance is declared invalid, the remaining provisions of this Ordinance shall not be affected.
Section 5. This Ordinance shall become effective immediately after final reading and
signature of the Mayor.2
