HomeMy WebLinkAboutO-14021City of Miami Ordinance 14021 Legislation City Hall 3500 Pan American Drive Miami, FL 33133 www.miamigov.com File Number: 9523 Final Action Date: 9/23/2021 AN ORDINANCE OF THE MIAMI CITY COMMISSION RENAMING THE PARK AT 342 SOUTHWEST 7 AVENUE, MIAMI, FLORIDA, CURRENTLY KNOWN AS "RIVERSIDE PARK/JORGE MAS CANOSA PARK", AS "GENERAL JOSE FRANCISCO MORAZAN QUESADA PARK"; AMENDING CHAPTER 38/ARTICLE I OF THE CODE OF THE CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA, AS AMENDED, TITLED "PARKS AND RECREATION/IN GENERAL", BY CREATING SECTION 38-28, TITLED "NAMING OF GENERAL JOSE FRANCISCO MORAZAN QUESADA PARK"; FURTHER DIRECTING THE CITY MANAGER TO TAKE ANY AND ALL ACTIONS NECESSARY TO EFFECTUATE THE RENAMING OF THE PARK; CONTAINING A SEVERABILITY CLAUSE; AND PROVIDING FOR AN IMMEDIATE EFFECTIVE DATE. SPONSOR(S): Commissioner Joe Carollo WHEREAS, the park located at 342 Southwest 7 Avenue, Miami, Florida ("Park") is currently known as "Riverside Park/Jorge Mas Canosa Park"; and WHEREAS, General Jose Francisco Morazan Quesada ("Morazan") was a Central American politician who was the head of state of Honduras, president of the Federal Republic of Central America, and rose to prominence at the Battle of La Trinidad on November 11, 1827; and WHEREAS, the City Commission wishes to honor Morazan because he was a visionary and great thinker as he attempted to transform Central America into one large and progressive nation and enacted liberal reforms in the new Federal Republic of Central America, including freedom of the press, freedom of speech, and freedom of religion; and WHEREAS, the City Commission has determined that it is appropriate for the Park to be renamed "General Jose Francisco Morazan Quesada Park"; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA: Section 1. The recitals and findings contained in the Preamble to this Ordinance are adopted by reference and incorporated as if fully set forth in this Section. Section 2. Chapter 38/Article I of the Code of the City of Miami, Florida, as amended, is further amended as follows:1 1 Words/and or figures stricken through shall be deleted. Naming of General Jose Francisco Morazan Quesada Park. a. The park located at 342 Southwest 7 Avenue, Miami, Florida shall be named the "General Jose Francisco Morazan Quesada Park." *„ Section 3. The City Manager is directed to take any and all actions necessary to effectuate the renaming of the Park. Section 4. If any section, part of a section, paragraph, clause, phrase, or word of this Ordinance is declared invalid, the remaining provisions of this Ordinance shall not be affected. Section 5. This Ordinance shall become effective immediately after final reading and signature of the Mayor.2 APPROVED AS TO FORM AND CORRECTNESS: ndez, City Httor ey 10/1/2021 2 This Ordinance shall become effective as specified herein unless vetoed by the Mayor within ten (10) days from the date it was passed and adopted. If the Mayor vetoes this Ordinance, it shall become effective immediately upon override of the veto by the City Commission or upon the effective date stated herein, whichever is later.
