Although I understand there is intense demand for dockage and ramps due to the influx in population as well as the escalation in boat ownership as the result of the national lockdowns, the small basin is not the appropriate location for increased boat traffic. My plea is supported but not limited to the following three factors. 1. The environmental impact. The additional boat traffic will inherently increase both operational and accidental discharges and disturb marine life. 2. The potential danger to the health and safety of our children. Specifically, members of the MAST Academy Rowing Team who launch their equipment from the area and utilize the basin as an egress to the ocean and bay. The said argument also applies to the Miami Rowing Club and its affiliates who use the area exclusively for non -motorized watersports. In the event a motorized vessel collides with a skull or canoe, the results could be fatal. Accordingly, just because one can afford to purchase a motorized vessel does not guarantee they know how to operate it nor makes them a responsible adult. 3. Lastly, it is imperative this Commission to set the tenor for being good stewards of the environment. As such, you should reject this proposal as all else being equal, the potential revenue to the city is not proportional to the probability of harm to its residents nor our environment. Respectfully, Jennifer Allegra Resident of Key Biscayne and Member of KANA LUI MIAMI OUTRIGGER CANOE TEAM 9041 Submittal -Public Comments Submitted Online for the May 6, 2021 Special City Commission Meeting
