A RESOLUTION OF THE MIAMI CITY COMMISSION DIRECTING THE CITY
MANAGER TO ESTABLISH AN ANNUAL LEGISLATIVE TIMELINE PROCESS FOR
DETERMINING STATE AND FEDERAL LEGISLATIVE PRIORITIES FOR FISCAL
YEAR 2020-2021 (COLLECTIVELY, "PRIORITIES"); FURTHER DIRECTING THE
CITY MANAGER TO REPORT BACK TO THE CITY COMMISSION ONCE THE
PRIORITIES ARE FINALIZED.
WHEREAS, the State of Florida Legislature and the United States Congress
(collectively, "Government") annually consider appropriation measures which provide
discretionary funding for, among other things, general governmental operations including the
City of Miami ("City"); and
WHEREAS, the Government annually proposes statutory amendments and new
legislation that directly affects the governance and operation of the City; and
WHEREAS, the City finds it necessary to develop annual legislative priorities with the
goal of establishing a comprehensive determination of legislative issues in order to protect and
benefit the interests of the residents of the City; and
WHEREAS, the establishment of an annual legislative timeline process will benefit the
City by providing a streamlined process for timely responding to legislative proposals that may
impact the City and will enable the City to focus its limited advocacy resources to address those
issues; and
WHEREAS, the establishment of an annual legislative timeline process will additionally
benefit the City by allowing it to pursue state and/or federal appropriation funding opportunities
that can provide the City with much needed resources;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF
MIAMI, FLORIDA:
Section 1. The recitals and findings contained in the Preamble to this Resolution are
adopted by reference and incorporated as if fully set forth in this Section.
Section 2. The City Manager is hereby directed to establish an annual legislative timeline
process for determining state and federal legislative priorities for Fiscal Year 2020-2021 and to
report back to the City Commission once the legislative timeline process has been finalized.
Section 3. This Resolution shall become effective immediately upon its adoption.
