A RESOLUTION OF THE MIAMI CITY COMMISSION DECLARING DECEMBER 10,
2020 IN THE CITY OF MIAMI "WE ARE ALL SAN ISIDRO" DAY.
WHEREAS, the San Isidro Movement ("Movement") has been one of the largest protests
of the last 60 years in a genuine demand for freedom and the search for a path to democracy in
Cuba; and
WHEREAS, the Movement has been a peaceful movement, made up of members of
independent artists, journalists, academics, intellectuals, and others organized to oppose
repression and the limited freedom of expression that exists in Cuba; and
WHEREAS, consequently, members of the Movement are being defamed in Cuba's
official media and suffering acts of repudiation in their own homes without the right to defend
themselves; and
WHEREAS, the Movement also seeks respect for the human rights of the voices of
dissidents in Cuba; and
WHEREAS, the Movement has been publicly supported by important and recognized
activists of the Cuban dissidence including Jose Daniel Ferrer and Las Damas de Blanco; and
WHEREAS, the Inter -American Court of Human Rights ("IACHR") rejected the irruption
in the headquarters of the Movement, describing said procedure and subsequent arrests as
"arbitrary" and urged the Cuban government to comply with its commitments and obligations in
relation to the granting of essential guarantees with respect for human rights and due process in
judicial matters; and
WHEREAS the President of the European Parliament's Subcommittee on Human
Rights, Marie Arena, expressed her deep concern about the situation of the protesters; and
WHEREAS, the Secretary of State of the United States, Michael Pompeo, declared his
support for the Movement and urged the Cuban government to "stop the harassment" of the
group release Denis Solis; and
WHEREAS, December 10 has been declared as Human Rights Day throughout the
world; and
WHEREAS, the City Commission to also declare December 10 in the City of Miami
("City") "We are all San Isidro" Day; and
WHEREAS, in accordance with Section 2-33(f) of the Code of the City of Miami, Florida,
as amended, the City Commission, by a majority vote, hereby deems this Resolution to be of an
emergency nature;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF
MIAMI, FLORIDA:
Section 1. The recitals and findings contained in the Preamble to this Resolution are
adopted by reference and incorporated as if fully set forth in this Section.
Section 2. The City Commission declares December 10, 2020 in the City as "We are all
San Isidro" Day.
Section 3. This Resolution shall become effective immediately upon its adoption.
