BUSINESS IMPROVEMENT DISTRICT
Dear Honorable Mayor and Members of the City Commission:
In the face of genuinely unprecedented global circumstances,
in Fiscal Year 2019-2020, the Coconut Grove Business
Improvement District continued its mission to enhance the
commercial vitality of Coconut Grove.
This year. the BID allocated $150,000.00 for small business
grants of up to $5,000.00 each. Grant funding is for rental
assistance or payroll.
With the City of Miami outdoor dining program's extension
through January 2021, the BID allocated $100,000.00 to
support businesses wishing to expand their outdoor dining
into parking spaces and street closures through grants to
purchase additional tables and umbrellas and lighting. The
BID will also fund the required maintenance of traffic and
safety barriers. The streetscape activations are a vehicle for
marketing the Grove with a distinct flair and a focus on safety.
Recognizing that there is an increase in food insecurity due to
rising unemployment in the district, the BID will allocate
$150,000.00 for a local meal delivery program with meals
provided by the restaurants. Participating restaurants will
receive $15 per meal, and the BID will work with a local
partner to deliver meals to those in need.
In partnership with the City of Miami Office of Capital
Improvements, the BID initiated a full repavement of the
sidewalks along our district's main throughway: Main Highway.
The new and enhanced infrastructure will provide much -
needed walkability to our district.

The projected revenue for Fiscal Year 2020-2021 for the
Coconut Grove BID is $4,769,426.00. While the BID expects an
increase in assessment revenue, the BID anticipates a decrease
in revenue from parking waivers, parking surcharge fees, and
permitting fees.
To balance our expenses with our revenue projections, in FY20-
21, the BID will reduce the current budgets for security, special
events, and capital improvement.
To infuse vibrancy into our businesses, the Grove BID will focus
on programming that sustains business activity, specifically
through streetscape activation, virtual engagement,
heightened marketing and advertisement, and grants.
Respectfully,
Abigael Mahony
