HomeMy WebLinkAboutExhibitCERTIFICATION AND DECLARATION OF RESULTS FOR THE SPECIAL ELECTION HELD ON AUGUST 18, 2020 STATE OF FLORIDA ) MIAMI-DADE COUNTY ) CITY OF MIAMI ) I, Todd B. Hannon, City Clerk of the City of Miami, Florida, do hereby certify that all necessary legal steps were taken in connection with the conduct of the City of Miami Special Election held on August 18, 2020 including, though not limited to, the following: I. Wednesday, July 29, 2020: A. Commencing at approximately 10:00 a.m., the Miami -Dade County Supervisor of Elections (hereinafter referred to as "Supervisor of Elections") conducted a logic and accuracy test of the touch screen and optical scan voting systems to be used for vote -by -mail, early voting and precinct ballots for the August 18, 2020 City of Miami Special Election. II. Thursday, July 30, 2020 through Tuesday, August 18, 2020: A. Commencing at approximately 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, July 30, 2020, the Supervisor of Elections conducted the pre -count logic and accuracy test of the optical scan voting system used for vote -by -mail, provisional and overseas ballots, and verified the correctness of the programs and equipment. Additionally, the Miami -Dade Elections Department began the process of opening vote -by -mail ballots in addition to the duplication of damaged vote -by - mail ballots. This task was carried out on an as -needed basis until Tuesday, August 18, 2020. B. Commencing at approximately 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, July 30, 2020, Miami - Dade County's Canvassing Board (hereinafter referred to as "Canvassing Board") met to canvass presumed invalid vote -by -mail ballots. This task was carried out on an as -needed basis until Tuesday, August 18, 2020. III. Tuesday, August 18, 2020 through Friday, August 21, 2020: A. Commencing at approximately 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday, August 18, 2020, the Canvassing Board met to canvass presumed invalid vote -by -mail ballots. Pursuant to Section 101.048(4), Florida Statutes, voters whose vote -by -mail ballots were presumed to be invalid by the Canvassing Board have the right to present written evidence supporting their eligibility to vote to the Supervisor of Page 1 of 3 Elections no later than 5:00 p.m. on the second day following the election. The deadline to provide said evidence was Thursday, August 20, 2020, by 5:00 p.m. IV. Friday, August 21, 2020: A. On Friday, August 21, 2020 the Canvassing Board met at approximately 9:00 a.m. to canvass vote -by -mail and provisional ballots (as needed). Pursuant to Sections 101.68(4) and 101.048(1), Florida Statutes, persons casting vote -by - mail ballots and provisional ballots have the right to present written evidence supporting their eligibility to vote to the Supervisor of Elections no later than 5:00 p.m. on the second day following the election. The deadline to provide said evidence was Thursday, August 20, 2020, at 5:00 p.m. After the completion of this task, the Supervisor of Elections sent via email the certified OFFICIAL election results for the August 18, 2020 Primary Election and City of Miami Special Election. V. Monday, August 24, 2020: A. On Monday, August 24, 2020, the Supervisor of Elections sent via email two reports containing OFFICIAL election results specifically for the City of Miami Special Election held on August 18, 2020. The reports included results from individual precincts within the City of Miami and the cumulative total of the election results for the City of Miami Special Election. VI.
