A RESOLUTION OF THE MIAMI CITY COMMISSION ALLOCATING GRANT FUNDS
FROM THE DISTRICT 5 COMMISSIONER'S SHARE OF THE CITY OF MIAMVS ANTI-
POVERTY INITIATIVE PROGRAM IN A TOTAL AMOUNT NOT TO EXCEED TWO
HUNDRED THOUSAND DOLLARS ($200,000,00) TO THE LIBERTY CITY
COMMUNITY REVITALIZATION TRUST FOR THE YOUTH EMPLOYMENT
PROGRAM.
WHEREAS, the City of Miami ("City") created the Anti -Poverty 'Initiative ("API") to
address poverty based on a strategy of focusing the provision of support towards the City's
residents achieving self-sufficiency, and
WHEREAS, the Liberty City Community Revitalization Trust ("Trust") has implemented a
Youth Employment Program ("Program") that imparts financial empowerment through paid work
assignments; and
WHEREAS, the Program furthers the API within the City and exemplifies the principles
outlined in the Gateway to Self -Sufficiency Strategy; and
WHEREAS, the City Commission previously allocated API funds from the District 5
share of API Funds to the Program pursuant to Resolution No, 16-0200 adopted April 28, 2016,
Resolution No. 17-0017 adopted January 17, 2017, and Resolution No. 18-0019 adopted
January 11, 2018 and the Program has been successful as a result; and
WHEREAS, the District 5 Commissioner wishes to provide grant funds from the District 5
share of API funds in an amount not to exceed Two Hundred Thousand Dollars ($200,000.00)
("Funds") for the Program which will provide jobs to seventy-five (75) at -risk youth, ages
fourteen (14) through eighteen (18) years of age in Liberty City, affording them an opportunity to
gain work experience throughout the City;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF
MIAM , FLORIDA:
Section 1, The recitals and findings contained in the Preamble of this Resolution are
adopted by reference and incorporated herein as if fully set forth in this Section.
Section 2, The allocation of grant funds from the District 5 share of API in an amount not
to exceed Two Hundred Thousand Dollars ($200,000.00) to the Trust for the Program is
authorized.'
Section 3, This Resolution shall become effective immediately upon its adoption.
' The herein authorization is further subject to compliance with all legal requirements that may be
lniposed„ including but not limited to, those prescribed by applicable City Charter and City Code
provisions
