HomeMy WebLinkAboutR-20-0141City of Miami Resolution R-20-0141 Legislation City Hall 3500 Pan American Drive Miami, FL 33133 www.miamigov.com File Number: 7438 Final Action Date: 5/7/2020 A RESOLUTION OF THE MIAMI CITY COMMISSION, WITH ATTACHMENT(S), PURSUANT TO SECTION 18-72 OF THE CODE OF THE CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA, AS AMENDED, AUTHORIZING THE ALLOCATION OF GRANT FUNDS IN AN AMOUNT NOT TO EXCEED FIVE THOUSAND DOLLARS ($5,000.00) FROM THE DISTRICT 1 COMMISSIONER'S SHARE OF THE CITY OF MIAMI'S ("CITY") ANTI -POVERTY INITIATIVE ("API"), FIVE THOUSAND DOLLARS ($5,000.00) FROM THE DISTRICT 2 COMMISSIONER'S SHARE OF THE CITY'S API, FIVE THOUSAND DOLLARS ($5,000.00) FROM THE DISTRICT 4 COMMISSIONER'S SHARE OF THE CITY'S API, AND TEN THOUSAND DOLLARS ($10,000.00) FROM THE MAYOR'S SHARE OF THE CITY'S API FOR A TOTAL AMOUNT NOT TO EXCEED TWENTY-FIVE THOUSAND DOLLARS ($25,000.00) TO FARM SHARE INC., A FLORIDA NOT FOR PROFIT CORPORATION, FOR FOOD DISTRIBUTION TO INDIVIDUALS OF LOW OR MODERATE INCOME, SPECIFICALLY INDIVIDUALS IN THE CITY WHO HAVE BEEN OTHERWISE NEGATIVELY IMPACTED BY THE NOVEL CORONAVIRUS ("COVID-19") PANDEMIC; FURTHER AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO NEGOTIATE AND EXECUTE ANY AND ALL NECESSARY DOCUMENTS, ALL IN A FORM ACCEPTABLE TO THE CITY ATTORNEY, FOR SAID PURPOSE. SPONSOR(S): Mayor Francis X. Suarez, Commissioner Alex Diaz de la Portilla, Commissioner Ken Russell, Commissioner Manolo Reyes WHEREAS, the City of Miami ("City") created the Anti -Poverty Initiative ("API") to address poverty based on a strategy of focusing the provision of support towards the City's residents achieving self-sufficiency; and WHEREAS, Farm Share, Inc., a Florida not for profit corporation ("Farm Share"), was established in 1991 based on the simple idea of distributing fresh food free of charge to families, children, seniors, and individuals in need throughout Florida; and WHEREAS, this simple but innovative idea has now grown into an organization that feeds millions of people and distributes more than 88 million pounds of healthy and nutritious food annually; and WHEREAS, Farm Share is seeking funding to provide much needed distribution of food to families and individuals who are of low or moderate income or persons in the City who have been otherwise negatively impacted by the COVID-19 Pandemic ("Program"), as more particularly described in the API Funding Request Form, attached and incorporated as Exhibit "A"; and WHEREAS, pursuant to Section 18-72 of the Code of the City of Miami, Florida, as amended ("City Code"), District 1 Commissioner Alex Diaz de la Portilla, District 2 City of Miami Page 1 of 2 File ID: 7438 (Revision:) Printed On: 5/2/2025 File ID: 7438 Enactment Number: R-20-0141 Commissioner Ken Russell, and District 4 Commissioner Manolo Reyes wish to provide from each respective office's share of the City's API grant funds an amount not to exceed Five Thousand Dollars ($5,000.00) and Mayor Francis Suarez wishes to provide from his office's API share an amount not to exceed Ten Thousand Dollars ($10,000.00) for a combined total amount of API funds not to exceed Twenty -Five Thousand Dollars ($25,000.00) (collectively, "Funds") for the Program; and WHEREAS, the City Manager is requesting authority to negotiate and execute any and all documents necessary, all in a form acceptable to the City Attorney, for the allocation of Funds for the Program; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA: Section 1. The recitals and findings contained in the Preamble of this Resolution are adopted by reference and incorporated herein as if fully set forth in this Section. Section 2. The City Manager is authorized' pursuant to Section 18-72 of the City Code to allocate Funds in the amounts herein stated from the District 1 Commissioner's, District 2 Commissioner's, District 4 Commissioner's, and the Mayor's share of the City's API to Farm Share for the Program. Section 3. The City Manager is further authorized1 to execute any and all documents necessary, all in a form acceptable to the City Attorney, for said purpose. Section 4. This Resolution shall become effective immediately upon its adoption.
