HomeMy WebLinkAboutR-20-0140City of Miami Resolution R-20-0140 Legislation City Hall 3500 Pan American Drive Miami, FL 33133 www.miamigov.com File Number: 7411 Final Action Date: 4/30/2020 A RESOLUTION OF THE MIAMI CITY COMMISSION REQUESTING THAT BANKS, NONPROFIT ORGANIZATIONS, AND COMMUNITY ORGANIZATIONS SUPPORT AND ASSIST FARM SHARES AND FOOD DISTRIBUTIONS IN RESPONSE TO THE CRISIS CREATED BY THE NOVEL CORONAVIRUS PANDEMIC. SPONSOR(S): Mayor Francis X. Suarez, Commissioner Alex Diaz de la Portilla, Commissioner Joe Carollo, Commissioner Manolo Reyes WHEREAS, many individuals in the City of Miami ("City") are experiencing food insecurity and need support; and WHEREAS, as the unemployment rate worsens, the need for support is growing; and WHEREAS, as local retailers are running low on supplies to donate, local farmers have been able to meet some of the increasing needs; and WHEREAS, the City's Administration recommends adopting this Resolution, which requests that banks, nonprofit organizations, and community organizations support and assist farm shares and food distributions in response to the crisis created by the Novel Coronavirus ("COVID-19") pandemic; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA: Section 1. The recitals and findings contained in the Preamble to this Resolution are adopted by reference and incorporated as if fully set forth in this Section. Section 2. The City Commission hereby requests that banks, nonprofit organizations, and community organizations support and assist farm shares and food distributions in response to the crisis created by the COVID-19 pandemic. Section 3. This Resolution shall become effective immediately upon its adoption.
