The following boards have Commissioners serving as members:
• Midtown Community Redevelopment Agency: Commissioner Ken Russell serves as
Chairperson from 1/18/2020 to 12/10/2020. Commissioner Wifredo (Willy) Gort served
as Vice Chairperson from 2/12/2010 to 11/26/2019. Commissioner Alex Diaz de la
Portilla, Commissioner Joe Carollo, Commissioner Manolo Reyes and Commissioner
Keon Hardemon serve as members.
• Omni Community Redevelopment Agency: Commissioner Alex Diaz de la Portilla
serves as Chairperson from 1/18/2020 to 12/10/2020. Commissioner Keon Hardemon
serves as Vice Chairperson from 12/15/2017 to present. Commissioner Ken Russell,
Commissioner Joe Carollo and Commissioner Manolo Reyes serve as members.
• Southeast Overtown/Park West Community Redevelopment Agency: Commissioner
Keon Hardemon serves as Chairperson from 1/18/2020 to 12/10/2020. Commissioner
Wifredo (Willy) Gort served as Vice Chairperson from 10/14/2011 to 11/26/2019.
Commissioner Alex Diaz de la Portilla, Commissioner Ken Russell, Commissioner Joe
Carollo, and Commissioner Manolo Reyes serve as members.
• Florida League of Cities: Commissioner Keon Hardemon serves as a member from
12/15/2017 to present.
• Greater Miami Convention & Visitors Bureau: Commissioner Keon Hardemon serves
as the City's representative from 12/13/2013 to present.
• Miami -Dade County League of Cities: Commissioner Wifredo (Willy) Gort served as a
member from 2/08/2011 to 11/26/2019.
• Miami -Dade County Tourist Development Council (TDC): Commissioner Keon
Hardemon serves as a member from 12/13/2013 to present.
• Miami River Commission: Commissioner Wifredo (Willy) Gort served as a member
from 12/15/2017 to 11/26/2019.
Please refer to the attached which reflects the history of Commissioners serving on boards. It
also includes certain boards wherein certain elected officials serve in an ex-officio capacity
and are therefore, not considered for replacement.
Pursuant to City Code Section 2-35, "...the appointment of the Mayor and/or any City
Commissioner currently serving as a member of any authority, board, or committee created
by resolution or ordinance shall be subject to the review of the City Commission on an
annual basis at the Commission's December meeting. It is the intent of the City Commission
that the Mayor and each Commissioner be considered for appointment to an authority, board,
or committee before the Mayor or any one Commissioner shall have served a consecutive
term; however, there shall be no prohibition against the Mayor or any Commissioner from
being reappointed to serve consecutive terms."
By copy of this memorandum to the Agenda Office, we are requesting that this issue be
scheduled for Commission consideration on the January 23, 2020, Commission Supplemental
Agenda.
