BACKGROUND
Reclaim the Dream event serves as an annual commemoration of the life, works and the anniversary of
the Assassination of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. (April 4, 1968) and at the same time to honor the life,
works and accomplishments of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
The event has been held for more than 9 years, on April 4th and include the event elements: A Unity
March, Keynote Address, Candlelight Prayer led by Clergy and Elected Officials and a Gospel concert. The
event is free to the general public. Providing these funds to the Organization the City will help to the
mission of the event inspiring and encouraging the community and to "Reclaim the Dream" of Dr. King.
RECOMMENDATION
In light of the above stated, approval of a waiver of the formal requirements of competitive sealed bidding
methods as not being practicable or advantageous to the City as set forth in the City Code of Ordinances,
as amended, specifically Section 18-85 (A), and the affirmation of these written findings and the
forwarding of the same to the City Commission for ratification by a four -fifths vote is respectfully
requested.
