Pursuant to City of Miami Commission Resolution R-19-0157, Mr. Brandon Alfred has been nominated
for membership on the Community Advisory Board ("CAB") by the Nominating Committee and has been
nominated by the CAB as a whole on September 5, 2019. It is the request of the CAB that the City
Commission consider the appointment of Brandon Alfred at the earliest City Commission meeting.

Strategy and Design
• Developed and implemented school wide culture plan that created a positive school environment centered on student and
teacher rewards, equitable access to services, and a restorative justice approach to behavior management.
• Created and manage school -wide reward system, for which over $10,000 has been raised for incentives for over 750 students.
• Developed and manage a school -wide testing plan that ensures over 750 students are tested across all six computer -based
standardized exams in a 6-week period, while maximizing instructional time and meeting student accommodations.
• Monitor and report school's academic and behavioral data as a member of the school's leadership team to inform school -wide
decisions and initiatives.
Coaching and Leadership
• Founded and Chair School Culture team, which consists of 10 staff members who are tasked with tracking progress towards
behavioral goals, communicating initiatives with faculty, and problem solving around trends in behavior.
• Coach teachers on developing a student -centered classroom environment, implementing our positive rewards system, and
leveraging restorative practices.
Accomplishments
• Achieved 100% faculty implementation of student reward and discipline system.
• Achieved a 70% decrease in referrals over the course of three school years.
• Increased overall student attendance from 85% to 95% over the last three years.
• Helped school continuously improve school grade from an "F' to a "C" over the course of two years.
• Secured funding through the 21' Century Community Learning Center grant to run a school managed after school program.
Teach for America, Miami, FL; School Leader Coordinator Feb. 2017 - July 2017
• Oversaw the leadership, corps member diversity development, and operational success of the three Miami -Dade Institute
school sites that served over 1,500 Miami -Dade students and 100 incoming teachers.
• Developed and managed the three School Leaders who led each of the Miami -Dade Institute summer school sites for student
enrichment and new teacher development.
• Supported the school leaders in their management of instructional and operational staff including teacher coaches, content
specialists, and operations directors.
• Trained School Leaders in executing diversity and equity curriculum for the incoming teachers.
• Guided School Leaders through the creation and execution of school visions that served as the guide for student learning,
teacher development, and the work of over 20 institute staff members.
Achieve Miami, Miami, FL; School Director at Jesse J. McCrary Elementary School Jan. 2016 - July 2016
• Led a summer school site of 14 staff members to provide teacher development and summer enrichment through social justice
oriented, project -based learning for 150 students.
• Summer end products included PSAs on food deserts, student conducted research and surveys on community safety, and
student designed board games based on lessons learned in statistics.
• 90% of students received a 3 or higher on final project rubrics designed with the guidance of the Buck Institute of Education.
• Achieved a 93% satisfaction rate from staff members with respect to professional development,
• 100% of teachers expressed confidence in their ability to implement project -based learning methods in their classrooms.
• 100% of students were able to define and explain how they lived up to the organization's five core values: Revolutionize,
Inquire, Show Out, Empower, and Smile.
Teach for America, Houston, TX; Corps Member Advisor June - Aug. 2015
• Coached and developed 26 incoming teachers, who taught English and Social Studies around classroom management, lesson
planning, and relationship building.
• Achieved a 100% effectiveness rating from teachers in the areas of "one-on-one coaching," and "teachers who feel like they are
making a difference in their summer school classrooms."

Miami Central Senior High School, Miami, FL; U.S. History Teacher Aug. 2013 — June 2015
• Utilized U.S. History course centered on achieving student mastery on the State U.S. History End of Course Exam as a means
to empower students to be active citizens via an inquiry -based model of teaching.
• Doubled achievement on the U.S. History State Exam by students in the school's lowest quartile of reading proficiency.
• Developed standards -based United States History lessons that cultivated sociocultural awareness.
• Engaged in professional development with Teach for America as a Corps Member admitted into the 2013 Corps as part of the
14% of 57,000 applicants for the Corps.
Pleitez for LA Mayor 2013, Los Angeles, CA; Press Secretary, Field Organizer June 2012 — Feb. 2013
• Wrote more than 20 speeches for candidate's speaking engagements at mayoral debates, community meetings, and university
presentations.
• Developed and maintained relationships with journalists and reporters with Los Angeles news outlets including the Los Angeles
Times, Los Angeles Daily News, and LA Weekly.
• Managed a five -person field team that averaged 800 voter contacts a week in Southwest Los Angeles.

• Support fundraising for P.S. 305, an education advocacy non-profit dedicated to empowering and organizing local leaders in
Miami -Dade.
• Build new, and advance existing, partnerships with community leaders and other non-profit advocacy organizations.
• Help set and oversee the organization's legislative and organizing priorities.
Miami -Dade County School Board, District 2 Miami, FL; Candidate April 2018 — August 2018
• Ran for the District 2 School Board seat in Miami -Dade County, the fourth largest school district in the country, against an
incumbent under whose leadership inner-city school progress has stagnated.
• Raised $50,000 in funding in support of the campaign.
• Led a team of individuals who knocked over 10,000 doors and had thousands of voter conversations ahead of election day.
• Increased name ID as a candidate with no prior public office held and gamered nearly 10,000 votes by election day in a span of
just four months.
21' Century Community Learning Center Miami, FL; Grant Writer, Co -Director May 2017 - Present
• Wrote the 215t Century Community Leaming grant application for Jose de Diego Middle School to implement an afterschool
program rooted in project -based teaming.
• Secured 1.3 million dollars of funding for the five-year implementation of the program through 215L Century funding
administered by the Florida Department of Education.
• Co -Direct the implementation of after school curriculum, operations, and the collection of deliverables for State reporting.
• Manage a team of 14 educators and a yearly budget of over $260,000 towards increasing student achievement and confidence
through project -based learning.
Teach for America - Miami Miami, FL; Professional Learning Community Facilitator Oct. 2016 — May 2017
• Facilitated monthly development sessions for 20 first year Corps Members.
• Sessions included data -based instruction, classroom management, project -based teaming, and inquiry -based instruction.
