A RESOLUTION OF THE MIAMI CITY COMMISSION URGING AND SUPPORTING
THE CO -DESIGNATION OF NORTHWEST 37TH AVENUE FROM NORTHWEST
14TH STREET TO THE CITY OF MIAMI'S NORTHERN LIMITS AT APPROXIMATELY
TAMIAMI CANAL, MIAMI, FLORIDA AS "CHARLES DELUCCA JR. WAY" BY MIAMI-
DADE COUNTY; FURTHER DIRECTING THE CITY CLERK TO TRANSMIT A
CERTIFIED COPY OF THIS RESOLUTION TO THE HEREIN DESIGNATED
OFFICES.
WHEREAS, Charles DeLucca, Jr. ("DeLucca") was born in White Plains, New York in
1941; and
WHEREAS, DeLucca served in the United States Navy from 1959 to 1962, was selected
to the All Navy Golf Team, and was named the Individual U.S. Navy Pacific Coast Golf
Champion; and
WHEREAS, DeLucca started his career at the Miami Lakes Inn and Country Club as a
Head Golf Professional from 1962 until 1969; and
WHEREAS, DeLucca founded the Dade Amateur Golf Association in 1968 and served
as its President and Executive Director until 2002; and
WHEREAS, DeLucca was the Director of Golf at Kings Bay Yacht & Country Club from
1969 until 1979; and
WHEREAS, DeLucca was the Golf Director at the Miami Melreese Country Club for the
City of Miami ("City") from 1971 to 2019; and
WHEREAS, DeLucca served on several committees in various capacities as a member,
president, and executive director for Miami LeJeune Men's Gold Association, First Tee Miami,
Jr. Golf Association of Florida, U.S. Cuban/American Golf Association, Doral/Publix Jr. Golf
Classic, and United States Golf Association; and
WHEREAS, DeLucca was the Tournament Director from 1968 until 2002 of the City's
Golf Classic which had Benefits Programs for Persons with Disabilities and raised over
$200,000.00 for the City's Parks and Recreation Department which led to the opening of the
Sandra DeLucca Developmental Center in 1973, named after DeLucca's daughter; and
WHEREAS, DeLucca received several awards, including but not limited to, the American
Cancer Society Honoree of the Year in 1998, Humanitarian Award — "Mr. Golf" by the Miami
Children's Hospital Foundation Community Council in 1999, Legends Award by Teens on the
Greens in 2002, and Department of Justice Federal Bureau of Investigation Director Community
Leadership Award in 2003; and
WHEREAS, DeLucca was elected to the South Florida PGA Hall of Fame; and
WHEREAS, DeLucca died on September 9, 2019 after a glorious philanthropic life and
contribution to the residents of the City; and
WHEREAS, the City would like to honor DeLucca by declaring no objection and
supporting the co -designation of that portion of Northwest 37th Avenue between Northwest 14th
Street and the City's northern limits at approximately the Tamiami Canal as "Charles DeLucca
Jr. Way" by Miami -Dade County ("County");
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF
MIAMI, FLORIDA:
Section 1. The recitals and findings contained in the Preamble to this Resolution are
adopted by reference and incorporated as if fully set forth in this Section.
Section 2. The Miami City Commission urges and supports the co -designation by the
County of that portion within the City's limits of Northwest 37th Avenue from Northwest 14th
Street and the City's northern limits at approximately the Tamiami Canal, Miami, Florida as
"Charles DeLucca Jr. Way."
Section 3. The City Clerk is directed to transmit a certified copy of this Resolution to the
County's Department of Transportation and Public Works and Mayor Carlos Gimenez.
Section 4. This Resolution shall become effective immediately upon its adoption and
signature of the Mayor.'

1 If the Mayor does not sign this Resolution, it shall become effective at the end of ten calendar days from
the date it was passed and adopted. If the Mayor vetoes this Resolution, it shall become effective
immediately upon override of the veto by the City Commission.
