WHEREAS, municipal self-determination and local self-government are constantly under pressure from a variety of public and private interests; and WHEREAS, resiliency is important to all communities across South Florida and immediate action, as described in the Greater Miami Resiliency Report, is necessary to preserve every Floridians' quality of life; and WHEREAS, Florida's municipalities are dependent on other governmental entities for financial stability and support; and WHEREAS, the City of Miami ("City") has identified its 2020 legislative priorities and requests the support of the Florida Legislature regarding these priorities; and WHEREAS, Governor Ron DeSantis and Florida's House and Senate leaders have an opportunity to address the concerns of the City and other municipalities during the upcoming 2020 legislative session; and WHEREAS, the Florida Congressional Delegation, likewise, has an opportunity to address the concerns of the residents of the City during the 116th and 117th Sessions of the United States Congress; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI: Section 1. The recitals and findings contained in the Preamble to this Resolution are adopted by reference and incorporated as if fully set forth in this Resolution. Section 2. The Miami City Commission urges Governor Ron DeSantis and the members of the Florida Legislature to support the issues adopted as the legislative priorities for the City, attached and incorporated as Exhibit "A", during the 2020 legislative session. Section 3. The Miami City Commission further urges the Florida Congressional Delegation to support the issues adopted as the legislative priorities for the City, attached and incorporated as Exhibit "A", during the 116th and 117t" Sessions of the United States Congress. Section 4. The Miami City Commission hereby directs the City Clerk to transmit a copy of this Resolution to Governor Ron DeSantis, Speaker of the House Jose R. Oliva, Senate President Bill Galvano, the Members of the Miami -Dade County Legislative Delegation, and the Florida Congressional Delegation. Section 5. This Resolution shall become effective immediately upon its adoption and signature of the Mayor.' APPROVED AS TO FORM AND CORRECTNESS: ndez, City Attor 7/15/2019 1 If the Mayor does not sign this Resolution, it shall become effective at the end of ten (10) calendar days from the date it was passed and adopted. If the Mayor vetoes this Resolution, it shall become effective immediately upon override of the veto by the City Commission.
