HomeMy WebLinkAboutR-19-0265City of Miami Resolution R-19-0265 Legislation City Hall 3500 Pan American Drive Miami, FL 33133 www.miamigov.com File Number: 5992 Final Action Date: 7/11/2019 A RESOLUTION OF THE MIAMI CITY COMMISSION, WITH ATTACHMENT(S), AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO EXECUTE A MUTUAL AID AGREEMENT, IN SUBSTANTIALLY THE ATTACHED FORM, BETWEEN THE CITY OF MIAMI ("CITY"), MIAMI-DADE COUNTY ("COUNTY"), AND OTHER PARTICIPATING LOCAL GOVERNING BODIES, BY AND THROUGH THEIR RESPECTIVE LAW ENFORCEMENT AGENCIES, TO RECEIVE AND EXTEND MUTUAL AID THROUGH THE MIAMI POLICE DEPARTMENT'S PARTICIPATION IN THE THREAT MANAGEMENT TASK FORCE, FOR THE PURPOSE OF INCREASING PUBLIC SAFETY BY CONDUCTING THREAT ASSESSMENTS, CASE MANAGEMENT, AND INFORMATION SHARING FOR THOSE INDIVIDUALS IDENTIFIED AS PERSONS OF CONCERN. WHEREAS, the City of Miami ("City"), Miami -Dade County ("County"), and other participating governing bodies, by and through their respective law enforcement agencies, have joined together, for the primary purpose of conducting public safety threat assessments, case management, and information sharing as it pertains to individuals identified as persons of concern for potential violence; and WHEREAS, the County has established the Threat Management Task Force ("Task Force") consisting of various participating law enforcement agencies, which work in partnership with the objective of increasing public safety, by proactively reducing the number of mental health crisis calls -for -service, involving weapons and minimizing targeted acts of violence within the County; and WHEREAS, the County and the City have the authority under Section 23.12, Florida Statutes, et seq., the Florida Mutual Aid Act, to enter into a Mutual Aid Agreement, in substantially the attached form ("Agreement"); and WHEREAS, this Agreement will expire on June 30, 2024, with the option to renew, for an additional five (5) year period; NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA: Section 1. The recitals and findings contained in the Preamble to this Resolution are adopted by reference and incorporated as if fully set forth in this Section. Section 2. Section 3. This Resolution shall become effective immediately upon its adoption and signature of the Mayor.2 APPROVED AS TO FORM AND CORRECTNESS: "ndez, City tor 2 If the Mayor does not sign this Resolution, it shall become effective at the end of ten (10) calendar days from the date it was passed and adopted.
