certainly justify any historic significance to
parking lot. And in the beginning that Parcel did
not belong to the Coconut Grove Theater. So i "wean t
to 'make that
I also was, a bit chagrined at myself j%j+iy+r1
because at the end. of the report I made the
south and east facades are lSGc
tatei ent only the
distinctive, which has led, I think, to a -- people
assuming that I am saying that only the east and
south facades are important and, therefore, we don't
need to worry about the building envelope itself. I
want to make clear that my intent - why I wrote
that, agal.n, I ' m not sure, but my intent was
certainly to include
-
the entire buil di nt
historic designation report. When we designate
historic buildings, we don't
essmis
in the
just do the envelope or
the -- what's seen from the front. It doesn't
receive its significance from just being two walls.
It's a -- an entire histo?:y of what happens inside
the building
I' should also point out that the
designation report does notaddressthe interior as
having historic significance_ That interior had
been substantially changed by another very prominent
architect who belongs to the modernist movement,

to -- you know, in a way to defer the parking lot
issue until later, but I think our hands are tied
y because of the Way it's been presented. ,tcledM1 r
