MIAMI'S ANTI -POVERTY INITIATIVE IN A TOTAL AMOUNT NOT TO EXCEED TEN
THOUSAND DOLLARS ($10,000.00) TO LA LIGA CONTRA EL CANCER, INC., A
FLORIDA NOT FOR PROFIT CORPORATION, IN SUPPORT OF PURCHASING

OF THE CODE OF THE CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA, AS AMENDED, AUTHORIZING

MIAMI'S ANTI -POVERTY INITIATIVE IN A TOTAL AMOUNT NOT TO EXCEED TEN
THOUSAND DOLLARS ($10,000.00) TO LA LIGA CONTRA EL CANCER, INC., A
FLORIDA NOT FOR PROFIT CORPORATION, IN SUPPORT OF PURCHASING
DRUGS/MEDICINES FOR CANCER PATIENTS; FURTHER AUTHORIZING THE CITY
MANAGER TO NEGOTIATE AND EXECUTE ANY AND ALL NECESSARY
DOCUMENTS, ALL IN A FORM ACCEPTABLE TO THE CITY ATTORNEY, FOR SAID
PURPOSE.
WHEREAS, the City of Miami ("City") created the Anti -Poverty Initiative ("API") to
address poverty, based on a strategy of focusing the provision of support towards the City's
residents achieving self-sufficiency; and
WHEREAS, La Liga Contra el Cancer, Inc., a Florida not -for -profit organization
("Organization"), is seeking funding in support of providing financial assistance to cancer
patients who are residents of Florida; and
WHEREAS, pursuant to Section 18-72 of the Code of the City of Miami, Florida, as
amended ("City Code"), Commissioner Manolo Reyes wishes to provide grant funds from the
District 4 share of the City's API in an amount not to exceed Ten Thousand Dollars ($10,000.00)
("Funds"), to assist City residents suffering with cancer, to obtain drugs/medicine; and
WHEREAS, the City Manager is requesting authority from the City Commission to
negotiate and execute any and all documents necessary, all in a form acceptable to the City
Attorney, for the allocation of the Funds for the Program;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF
MIAMI, FLORIDA:
Section 1. The recitals and findings contained in the Preamble to this Resolution are
adopted by reference and incorporated herein as if fully set forth in this Section.
Section 2. The City Manager is authorized,' pursuant to Section 18-72 of the City Code,
to allocate Funds from the District 4 share of the City's API to the Organization for its Program.
Section 3. The City Manager is further authorized' to execute any and all necessary
documents, all in a form acceptable to the City Attorney, for said purpose.
1 The herein authorization is further subject to compliance with all requirements that may be imposed by
the City Attorney, including but not limited to, those prescribed by applicable City Charter and City Code
provisions.
Section 4. This Resolution shall become effective immediately upon its adoption and
signature of the Mayor.2

2 If the Mayor does not sign this Resolution, it shall become effective at the end of ten (10) calendar days
from the date it was passed and adopted. If the Mayor vetoes this Resolution, it shall become effective
immediately upon override of the veto by the City Commission.
