Background of Item: On March 12, 2019, the City of Miami was notified of a subgrant award from the Florida Department of Law Enforcement, Justice Assistance Grant, to teach the Gang Resistance Education and Training (G.R.E.A.T) to elementary students. The funding will support overtime pay for police officers to provide classroom instruction and various learning activities to 4th and 5th grade students. The police officers will utilize the G.R.E.A.T. curriculum to provide students an additional opportunity to enhance their social skills and provide alternatives to gang involvement. WHEREAS, on March 12, 2019, the City of Miami ("City") was notified of a subgrant award from the Florida Department of Law Enforcement for the Gang Resistance Education and Training (G.R.E.A.T) curriculum for elementary students; and WHEREAS, the funding will support overtime pay for police officers to provide classroom instruction and various learning activities to fourth (4th) and fifth (5th) grade students; and WHEREAS, the police officers will utilize the G.R.E.A.T. curriculum to provide students an additional opportunity to enhance their social skills and provide alternatives to gang involvement; and WHEREAS, there is a City fund contribution of $74.00; and WHEREAS, said subgrant is awarded for the period of October 1, 2018 through September 30, 2019; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA: Section 1. The recitals and findings contained in the Preamble to this Resolution are hereby adopted by reference and incorporated herein as if fully set forth in this Section. Section 2. The following new Special Revenue Project is established and resources are appropriated as described below: FUND TITLE: Gang and Youth Violence Intervention Project RESOURCES: Florida Department of Law Enforcement, Justice Assistance Grant $35,518.00 City Fund Contribution 74.00 APPROPRIATIONS: $35,592.00 Section 3. The City Manager is authorized' to execute the agreement, in substantially the attached form, for acceptance of the subgrant award. Section 4. This Resolution shall become effective immediately upon its adoption and signature of the Mayor.2 APPROVED AS TO FORM AND CORRECTNESS: ndez, City Attor 4/25/2019 1 The herein authorization is further subject to compliance with all requirements that may be imposed by the City Attorney, including but not limited to, those prescribed by applicable City Charter and City Code provisions. 2 If the Mayor does not sign this Resolution, it shall become effective at the end of ten (10) calendar days from the date it was passed and adopted. If the Mayor vetoes this Resolution, it shall become effective immediately upon override of the veto by the City Commission.
