I am Haitian American, and the owner of several businesses in Little Haiti. 1. Piman Bouk Radio International, 1360am and 102.3fm. 2. Piman Bouk Bakery 3. Piman Bouk Restaurant 4. Che bebe Restaurant 5. Several other properties I am in support because the proposed Magic City development will provide welcome revitalization and activation of what is now, in many ways, a neglected and rundown part of Miami. I am doing my best to keep the dreams and hopes of the people of Little Haiti alive by operating two reasonably priced Haitian restaurants and a Haitian Bakery in the heart of Little Haiti. Also I have recently purchased my own radio stations and moved the studios to 350 NE 71 St. in Little Haiti. My radio station is considered by many as the Haitian CNN and the voice of the Haitian American Diaspora. Magic City, in my opinion, will be an asset to the entire Little Haiti Community and I hope you will support Little Haiti businesses by supporting the rezoning proposal. Thank you, 1 Nelson Voltaire, (aka Piman Bouk) URBAN EXPERIENCE 212 NE 59` Terrace, Miami 33137 1305.890.2121 j info@muce305.org Miami City Commission 3500 Pan American Drive Miami, FL 33133 Dear Honorable Mayor and City Commissioners, kW /IVAN EXPERIENCE It is my pleasure to write a letter in support of the Magic City Innovation District. The development is an exciting and innovative proposal that will transform the existing properties and surrounding areas into an interactive and revitalized community. The new neighborhood will contribute to the economic vitality of the City while preserving and enhancing the local Haitian culture and I ask for your support of this proposal. Magic City has been collaborating with the Little Haiti community to ensure that the proposal embraces the rich culture that has been thriving in Little Haiti for decades and to identify partnership and enhancement opportunities. As the owners of the Miami Urban Contemporary Experience, LLC (a resident company at the Little Haiti Cultural Complex) we can attest the work being done. In December of 2017, the Magic City Foundation worked with our team, known for providing local artists an opportunity to exhibit and sale their art work at the Miami Art Week exhibition, Route 1804. This provided visibility of our visual artists in from the neighborhood and the surround area. Furthermore, it allowed our emerging arts administrators and producer additional economic opportunity during the busy art season. We work specifically with residents in District 5 to train talent to participate in the arts economy. By contracting MUCE, Magic City put more than $18,000 back into the residential work force in less than three weeks. Twenty-five temporary jobs were created, and a space for 63 artists was provided for showcase. They are standing behind their promise to preserve the thriving Haitian culture that has existed in the neighborhood along NE 2nd Avenue for decades. As business owners and community activators, MUCE is happy to know that it is a priority for Magic City to bring new fresh ideas to Little Haiti while respecting and engaging the current community. Their team has worked to become active participants in the local community and the community organizations like MUCE, that have been working within Little Haiti for years. We look forward to the growth of Little Haiti with Magic City and believe that with great political stewards of our local funding and needs, responsible decisions for growth and sustainability in Little Haiti will be made with the Magic City Innovation District. The proposed redevelopment will continue to invest in community and embrace the rich culture that has been thriving in Little Haiti. MUCE looks forward to this continued commitment as the vision of Magic City unfolds. Please join me in support of this new and exciting redevelopment. MBF draws from a pool of more than 40 professionals, recognized in the community as experts in their field, to educate small-business owners. Some of the subjects covered during the 25-hours are: • General marketing, social media, and branding; • Human Resource management, contracts, insurance, and leases; • Recordkeeping; • Setting up hardware, software and internet security systems; • Cash flow, budgeting, and financial projections (strong focus); • Balance sheets, profit and loss statements; • Development of an executive summary; and, • Presenting to funders. In partnership with MCID, we graduated 22 minority -owned small-business owners from the first series of workshops in the winter of 2018 and will be conducting a second series this summer, for which there is a waiting list of more than 50 small-business owners. One important aspect of the training is ongoing mentoring and networking. Participants develop support networks that include the presenters/teachers and the other small business owners. We enable and strongly suggest the use of these networks to help with their continued business development. We value our partnership with MCID and look forward to fulfilling our mutual long-term goals of job creation and stabilization of minority -owned local businesses in the Little Haiti area.
