AMPHITHEATER ON MARCH 23, 2019 TO CONTINUE SHOWING INTERNATIONAL
SUPPORT FOR THE VALIANT PEOPLE OF VENEZUELA IN THEIR STRUGGLE FOR
DEMOCRACY AND LIBERTY FROM AN OPPRESSIVE NARCO-DICTATORSHIP;
FURTHER RAISING SUPPORT FOR THE PROVISION OF HUMANITARIAN AID TO
THE VENEZUELAN PEOPLE BY THE INTERNATIONAL COMMUNITY.

A RESOLUTION OF THE MIAMI CITY COMMISSION SUPPORTING THE "ABAJO
CADENAS, UN CANTO A LA LIBERTAD" (DOWN WITH CHAINS, A SONG FOR
LIBERTY) FREEDOM CONCERT TO BE HELD AT THE BAYFRONT PARK
AMPHITHEATER ON MARCH 23, 2019 TO CONTINUE SHOWING INTERNATIONAL
SUPPORT FOR THE VALIANT PEOPLE OF VENEZUELA IN THEIR STRUGGLE FOR
DEMOCRACY AND LIBERTY FROM AN OPPRESSIVE NARCO-DICTATORSHIP;
FURTHER RAISING SUPPORT FOR THE PROVISION OF HUMANITARIAN AID TO
THE VENEZUELAN PEOPLE BY THE INTERNATIONAL COMMUNITY.
WHEREAS, the United States ("U.S.") government, along with the European Union
("EU"), the Organization of American States ("OAS"), the Grupo de Lima, and over sixty
(60) countries have recognized the true government of Venezuela as headed by the
National Assembly and its President, Juan Guaido; and
WHEREAS, a freedom concert, "Abajo Cadenas, un Canto a la Libertad" (Down
with Chains, a Song for Liberty), will take place at the Bayfront Park Amphitheater on
March 23, 2019 to show international support for the valiant people of Venezuela and their
legitimate government; and
WHEREAS, major international artists and celebrities along with key figures of the
free Venezuelan government will participate in the event; and
WHEREAS, the Venezuelan people have been leading a valiant struggle for
freedom from an oppressive narco-dictatorship; and
WHEREAS, the Venezuelan people merit the continuing support from freedom
loving people in their struggle; and
WHEREAS, the narco-dictatorship has mercilessly killed, brutally wounded, and
unjustly imprisoned thousands of Venezuelans; and
WHEREAS, the children and elderly in Venezuela are dying from lack of food and
medicine and the average adult has lost approximately twenty pounds (20 Ibs); and
WHEREAS, the Miami City Commission desires to support the freedom loving
people of Venezuela and the provision of Humanitarian Aid to them by supporting the
"Abajo Cadenas, un Canto a la Libertad" (Down with Chains, a Song for Liberty) Concert;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF
MIAMI, FLORIDA:
Section 1. The recitals and findings contained in the Preamble to this Resolution are
adopted by reference and incorporated as if fully set forth in this Section.
Section 2. The Miami City Commission hereby declares its support for the
"Abajo Cadenas, un Canto a la Libertad" (Down with Chains, a Song for Liberty)
freedom concert to be held at the Bayfront Park Amphitheater on March 23, 2019 to
continue showing international support for the valiant people of Venezuela in their
struggle for democracy and liberty from an oppressive narco-dictatorship and further
raising support for the provision of Humanitarian Aid to the Venezuelan people by the
international community.
Section 3. This Resolution shall become effective immediately upon its adoption
and signature of the Mayor.'

1 If the Mayor does not sign this Resolution, it shall become effective at the end of ten (10) calendar days
from the date it was passed and adopted. If the Mayor vetoes this Resolution, it shall become effective
immediately upon override of the veto by the City Commission.
