Course
Purpose of Item:
A Discussion Item of the Miami City Commission providing a status update and timeline
for the lease between the City of Miami and Miami Freedom Park, LLC for the
development of the soccer stadium complex at Melreese Golf Course.
Background of Item:
The City of Miami ("City") is the owner in fee simple of approximately one hundred thirty-
one (131) acres of real property generally located at 1400 Northwest 37th avenue,
Miami, Florida 33125, identified as folios 01-3132-000-0080 and 01-3132-000-0090,
and commonly known as the Melreese Golf Course ("Site").
Miami Freedom Park, LLC ("MFP") desires to design and develop approximately
seventy-three (73) acres of the Site for the purposes of constructing a professional
soccer complex, Public Park, entertainment spaces, retail, and hotel and conference
center with ancillary commercial uses ("Project"). On November 6, 2018, the City of
Miami voters approved a charter amendment authorizing the City to negotiate and
execute a 99-year lease with MFP for the development of the Project. On February 14,
2019, the City Commission requested an updated status report and timeline for the
lease and development of the Project.
