Allocation - Miami Super Bowl Committee
Purpose of the Item:
To allow the City Manager to pay $500,000 to the Superbowl Host Committee as
budgeted in the FY 2018-19 Adopted Budget and to authorize the City Manager to
negotiate with the Host Committee, in a form acceptable to the City Attorney, an
agreement to reflect this contribution and other necessary arrangements.
Background Information:
As requested by the Superbowl Host Committee, the City has budgeted to support the
February 2020 Superbowl with a Contribution of $500,000 in FY 2018-19.

A RESOLUTION OF THE MIAMI CITY COMMISSION AUTHORIZING THE CITY
MANAGER TO APPROPRIATE AND TO PAY FROM NON -DEPARTMENTAL
ACCOUNT NO. 00001.980000.882000.0000.00000 THE CITY OF MIAMI'S ("CITY")
CONTRIBUTION FOR FISCAL YEAR 2018-2019 TO THE MIAMI SUPERBOWL HOST
COMMITTEE ("HOST COMMITTEE") IN THE AMOUNT OF FIVE HUNDRED
THOUSAND DOLLARS ($500,000.00) ("CITY CONTRIBUTION"); FURTHER
AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO NEGOTIATE ANY AND ALL AGREEMENTS
WITH THE HOST COMMITTEE TO REFLECT THE CITY CONTRIBUTION THERETO,
THE USE OF THE CITY CONTRIBUTION, AND THE CITY'S HOSTING AND
PARTICIPATING IN RELATED EVENTS, AND TO ACCEPT, IF APPLICABLE,
DONATIONS TO THE CITY INCLUDING, BUT NOT LIMITED TO, PERMITTED
IMPROVEMENTS AT CITY -OWNED VENUES, IN A FORM LEGALLY ACCEPTABLE
TO THE CITY ATTORNEY AND AFTER FINAL APPROVAL BY THE CITY
COMMISSION.
WHEREAS, South Florida has previously hosted several National Football League
Super Bowls and related events and has been selected again to host the Super Bowl in 2020;
and
WHEREAS, the City of Miami ("City") has previously hosted, participated in, and
assisted with various community events for such national sporting events in a variety of ways;
and
WHEREAS, in previous national sporting events involving the City, there have been
donations to the City, improvements to City -owned properties, and in -kind services provided by
the City; and
WHEREAS, once again, the City has been requested to host, participate in, and assist
with community events for Super Bowl LIV by the Miami Super Bowl Host 2020 Committee
("Host Committee"); and
WHEREAS, the City's current Operating Budget includes five hundred thousand dollars
($500,000.00) ("City Contribution") as a contribution for Fiscal Year 2018-2019 from the City to
the Host Committee; and
WHEREAS, it is in the best interests of the City to authorize the City Manager to
negotiate any and all necessary agreements with the Host Committee to reflect the City
Contribution, the uses of the City Contribution, the City's hosting and participation in related
events, and to accept, if applicable, donations to the City including, but not limited to, permitted
improvements at City -owned venues, subject to approval by the City Attorney as to legal form
and correctness and final approval by the City Commission;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF
MIAMI, FLORIDA:
Section 1. The recitals and findings contained in the Preamble to this Resolution are
adopted by reference and incorporated as if fully set forth in this Section.
Section 2. The City Manager is authorized' to appropriate and to pay from Non -
Departmental Account No. 00001.980000.882000.0000.00000 the City's Contribution to the
Host Committee.
Section 3. The City Manager is authorized' to negotiate any and all agreements with the
Host Committee to reflect the City Contribution thereto and the uses of said City Contribution,
hosting and participating in related events, and to accept, if applicable, donations to the City
including, but not limited to, permitted improvements at City -owned venues, in a form legally
acceptable to the City Attorney and final approval by the City Commission.
Section 4. This Resolution shall become effective immediately upon its adoption and
signature of the Mayor.2

The herein authorization is further subject to compliance with all requirements that may be imposed by
the City Attorney, including but not limited to, those prescribed by applicable City Charter and City Code
provisions.
2 If the Mayor does not sign this Resolution, it shall become effective at the end of ten (10) calendar days
from the date it was passed and adopted. If the Mayor vetoes this Resolution, it shall become effective
immediately upon override of the veto by the City Commission.
