Background of Item: The Federal Emergency Management Agency ("FEMA"), U.S. Department of Homeland Security, Grants Management Branch, has awarded the "Assistance to Firefighters Grant Award for Fiscal Year 2017" to the City of Miami Department of Fire -Rescue. This grant will assist the Department of Fire -Rescue in purchasing high-pressure fire hoses that will allow fire suppression apparatuses to supply the upper floors of the City's high-rise buildings with adequate water pressure to conduct firefighting activities in the event of fire, thereby reducing the risk of loss of life to both firefighters and the public. WHEREAS, the City of Miami ("City") has been awarded a grant in the amount of $90,910.00 ("Grant") for the period beginning July 6, 2018, through July 5, 2019 from the Federal Emergency Management Agency ("FEMA"), United States Department of Homeland Security("DHS"), Grants Program Directorate ("GPD"); and WHEREAS, as stipulated in the Grant, the Department of Fire -Rescue will utilize said funds to purchase high-pressure fire hoses that will allow fire suppression apparatuses to supply the upper floors of the City's high-rise buildings with adequate water pressure to conduct firefighting activities in the event of fires, thereby reducing the risk of loss of life to both firefighters and the public; and WHEREAS, the Grant requires matching funds from the City in the amount of $9,090.00; and WHEREAS, it is appropriate for the City Commission to authorize the City Manager to execute any and all necessary documents for the acceptance and administration of said Grant and to appropriate same; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA: Section 1. The recitals and findings contained in the Preamble to this Resolution are adopted by reference and incorporated as if fully set forth in this Section. Section 2. The following new Special Revenue Project is established and resources are appropriated as described below: FUND TITLE: Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program Fiscal Year 2017 RESOURCES: FEMA, DHS, GPD City Matching Funds from Acct. #00001.181000.899000.0000.00000 $ 9,090.00 APPROPRIATIONS: $90,910.00 $100,000.00 Section 3. This appropriation is contingent upon final Grant approval by FEMA, DHS, and the City Manager's acceptance thereof. Section 4. The City Manager's acceptance of the Grant is hereby ratified and the City Manager is authorized' to execute any and all necessary documents, in a form acceptable to the City Attorney, in order to implement acceptance of said Grant. Section 5. This Resolution shall become effective immediately upon its adoption and signature of the Mayor.2 APPROVED AS TO FORM AND CORRECTNESS: 1 The herein authorization is further subject to compliance with all requirements that may be imposed by the City Attorney, including but not limited to, those prescribed by applicable City Charter and City Code provisions. 2 If the Mayor does not sign this Resolution, it shall become effective at the end of ten (10) calendar days from the date it was passed and adopted. If the Mayor vetoes this Resolution, it shall become effective immediately upon override of the veto by the City Commission.
