HomeMy WebLinkAboutR-18-0302City of Miami Resolution R-18-0302 Legislation City Hall 3500 Pan American Drive Miami, FL 33133 www.miamigov.com File Number: 4507 Final Action Date: 7/12/2018 A RESOLUTION OF THE MIAMI CITY COMMISSION DIRECTING THE CITY MANAGER TO WORK WITH THE CITY OF MIAMI'S ("CITY") STATE AND FEDERAL GOVERNMENT LOBBYISTS TO SEEK AND OBTAIN ANY AND ALL AVAILABLE FUNDING FOR THE REMEDIATION OF BROWNFIELD REHABILITATION AREAS WITHIN THE CITY WITH A FOCUS ON MELREESE COUNTRY CLUB, A CITY PARK, FROM THE STATE OF FLORIDA AND ANY OTHER APPLICABLE FEDERAL GOVERNMENTAL AGENCY; DIRECTING THE CITY MANAGER TO SEEK FUNDING FOR THE REMEDIATION OF BROWNFIELDS REHABILITATION SITES FROM OTHER POTENTIAL NON- GOVERNMENTAL SOURCES; DIRECTING THE CITY MANAGER TO MAKE THE FINDING OF AVAILABLE FUNDING FOR SAID REMEDIATION A LEGISLATIVE PRIORITY; FURTHER DIRECTING THE CITY CLERK TO TRANSMIT A COPY OF THIS RESOLUTION TO THE OFFICIALS STATED HEREIN. WHEREAS, pursuant to Section 376.80, Florida Statutes, the City of Miami ("City") has previously designated several City properties as Brownfield areas in need of environmental rehabilitation; and WHEREAS, the United States Environmental Protection Agency's ("EPA") Brownfields Program ("Brownfields Program") provides grants and technical assistance to communities, states, tribes, and others to assess, safely cleanup, and sustainably reuse contaminated properties; and WHEREAS, the Brownfield Program grants support revitalization efforts by funding environmental assessment, research, community outreach, cleanup and job training activities, and WHEREAS, the City Commission wishes to make the finding of available funding for Brownfields areas within the City, specifically focusing on environmental rehabilitation for Melreese County Club ("Melreese"), a City park, a legislative priority; and WHEREAS, these funds will be used to remediate areas at Melreese; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA: Section 1. The recitals and findings contained in the Preamble to this Resolution are adopted by reference and incorporated as fully set forth in this Section. Section 2. The City Manager is directed to work with the City's State and Federal Lobbyists to seek and obtain any and all available funding for the remediation of Brownfield City of Miami Page 1 of 2 File ID: 4507 (Revision:) Printed On: 4/1/2025 File ID: 4507 Enactment Number: R-18-0302 Rehabilitation areas within the City, with a focus on Melreese, from the State of Florida and any applicable Federal Government Agency. Section 3. The City Manager is further directed to seek funding for the remediation of Brownfields Rehabilitation sites from other potential non -governmental sources and to make the finding of available funding for said remediation a legislative priority. Section 4. The City Clerk is directed to transmit a copy of this Resolution to the City's State Lobbyists Southern Strategy Group, Inc. and Becker & Poliakoff, P.A. and Federal Lobbyist Iseman & Associates, LLC., Governor Rick Scott, the members of the Miami -Dade County Delegation, and the members of the Miami -Dade Congressional Delegation. Section 5.
