City of Miami Legislation Resolution Enactment Number: R-17-0203 City Hall 3500 Pan American Drive Miami, FL 33133 www.miamigov.com File Number: 2045 Final Action Date:4/27/2017 A RESOLUTION OF THE MIAMI CITY COMMISSION CODESIGNATING A PORTION OF SOUTHWEST 12TH COURT BETWEEN SOUTHWEST 8th STREET AND SOUTHWEST 10th STREET IN MIAMI, FLORIDA, AS "ROLANDO OCHOA WAY"; FURTHER DIRECTING THE CITY CLERK TO TRANSMIT A COPY OF THIS RESOLUTION TO THE HEREIN DESIGNATED OFFICES. WHEREAS, in 1916, Rolando Ochoa was born in Havana, Cuba as Rolando Ochoa Garcia, it was in the island nation, at the Marti Theater that he met his future wife and fellow film star, television and radio personality Pepa Berrio; and WHEREAS, Mr. Ochoa immediately took an affinity towards acting, debuting in his first major production "It happened in Havana" in his early twenties; and WHEREAS, during the communist takeover, the Ochoa's fled from Cuba finding refuge in the City of Miami ("City") and, despite his relocation, Rolando Ochoa continued his passion for the big screen going on to star in multiple films including El Vigilante Chegoy, La Rumba in television, and Romance del Palmer; and WHEREAS, Mr. Ochoa was a kind hearted and warm spirited individual who spent his remaining years in the City until he passed away in 2009, he was survived by four (4) children from his sixty (60) year marriage to his wife Pepa Berrio; and WHEREAS, Rolando Ochoa will always be remembered by his moniker primer Mister Television en Cuba, and for all the efforts he helped advanced in film, television and radio; and WHEREAS, currently there exists a codesignation along Southwest 12th Court in Miami, Florida from Northwest 1st Street to Southwest 9th Street for "Avenida Francisco Morazan"; and WHEREAS, that existing codesignation shall be reduced to run along Northwest/Southwest 12th Court from Northwest 1st Street to Southwest 3rd Street; and WHEREAS, "Rolando Ochoa Way" shall commence from Southwest 8th street to Southwest 10th street along Southwest 12th Court in Miami, Florida; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA: Section 1. The recitals and findings contained in the Preamble to this Resolution are adopted by reference and incorporated as if fully set forth in this Section. Section 2. Southwest 12th Court from Southwest 8th street to Southwest 10th street. Miami, Florida is codesignated as "Rolando Ochoa Way." Section 3. The City Manager is directed to instruct the City Clerk to transmit a copy of this Resolution to the Departments of Police, Fire -Rescue, Solid Waste, the Miami -Dade County Public Works Department, and the United States Postal Service. Section 4. This Resolution shall become effective immediately upon its adoption and signature of the Mayor.' If the Mayor vetoes this Resolution, it shall become effective immediately upon override of the veto by the City Commission.
