HomeMy WebLinkAboutMemo - Police Dept.CITY OF MIAMI. FLORIDA INTER -OFFICE MEMORANDUM TO Rodolfo Llanes, Chief of Police Miami Police Department FROM Juvenal Santana, P.E., CFM Director of Public Works DATE November 1, 2016 SUBJECT REFERENCES FILE Proposed vehicular restriction in the Coral Gate neighborhood ENCLOSURES Location Map On February 23, 1989, the City Commission adopted Resolution No. 89-211 directing the permanent prohibition of vehicular access to SW 33 Avenue south of its intersection with SW 21 Street, conditioned upon access for emergency vehicles be provided at all times through the barricade. The City of Miami Fire -Rescue Department subsequently opened the Shenandoah fire - rescue facility providing improved emergency service to the Coral Gate neighborhood, thereby changing the conditions under which the barricade was originally approved. Based upon these changed conditions, residents of the Coral Gate neighborhood have requested that all vehicular access be prohibited through the barricade across SW 33 Avenue, including emergency vehicles, and that the neighborhood perimeter wall be extended across the SW 33 Avenue right of way. In response, the City administration is conducting a re-evaluation of the condition to provide emergency vehicle access through the barricade and the effects, if any, of the elimination of the condition that access for emergency vehicles be provided through the SW 33 Avenue barricade. Under this proposal, pedestrian access shall continue to be permitted at all times through the barricade/wall. As directed by Miami City Code Section 54-16, the Public Works Department is soliciting written comments and recommendations concerning the proposed elimination of emergency vehicle access through the SW 33 Avenue barricade from the Police, Fire -Rescue and Solid Waste Departments for presentation to the City Commission at their January 12, 2017 meeting.
